Pathogenesis of hemostasis disorders in septic peritonitis and the possibility of their correction with acute phase protein (alpha1-acid glycoprotein; two doses of 150 mg/kg) were experimentally studied on outbred albino rats. Platelets count in the peripheral blood and their adhesion to endothelium did not change during peritonitis, while aggregation activity increased due to increased rate and shorter time of aggregation, which was associated with the development of hypercoagulation involving the intrinsic and common coagulation pathways and reduction of antithrombin activity. alpha1-Acid glycoprotein increased platelet count above the normal level, normalized aggregation rate, some blood clotting parameters, and antithrombin activity. Hence, alpha1-acid glycoprotein is a polyfunctional protein modulating all pathogenetic components in the development of blood clotting disorders during septic peritonitis.

The aim of this work was to extend the existing knowledge of the interaction between newly synthetized substances with anticancer properties (5-methyl-12(H)-chino[3,4-b]-[1,4]-benzothiazine chloride (Salt1), 9-fluoro-5-alkyl-12(H)-quino[3,4-b][1,4]benzothiazine chloride (Salt2), and 9-amino-5-alkyl-12(H)-quino[3,4-b][1,4]benzothiazine chloride (Salt3) with model plasma carrier proteins. The thermodynamic profile of ligand-protein complexation and the contribution of bonds responsible for complex formation have been studied using calorimetry technique. The research has theoretical and experimental nature, but from a scientific point of view is novelty due to promising biological properties of Salt1, Salt2, and Salt3 and provide an important basis for further in vitro and in vivo studies.

Aim: Approximately 99% of neonatal deaths from sepsis occur in low-to middle-income countries, highlighting the need for efficient screening tools. The Acute Phase Reactant (APR) score comprises C-reactive protein, α1-acid glycoprotein, and haptoglobin, and can be assessed using a latex agglutination kit without modern equipment and expertise. This study assessed APR-score inter-rater reliability and identified non-infectious independent variables associated with positive APR scores in well-appearing term neonates with maternal risk factors for neonatal infection.

Introduction: Plasma protein binding plays a significant role in influencing the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of drugs. This study focuses on examining two pairs of sequence-matched ASOs: phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligomers (PMOs) and 2'-O-methoxyethyl/phosphorothioate (MOE/PS)-modified ASOs, to assess their plasma protein binding profiles.
Methods: The binding of both PMO and MOE/PS-modified ASOs was investigated using an ultrafiltration method combined with hybridization electrochemiluminescence, allowing for the measurement of the unbound fraction (u) in both mouse and human plasma.
