Metastasis of cancer to the spleen or small intestine is rare. We encountered a case of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with splenic and jejunal metastases. A 60-year-old man was referred to us in February 2005 with a diagnosis of splenic tumor. Since 2001, he had been treated repeatedly for HCC with liver cirrhosis due to hepatitis C virus infection; partial liver resection, transcatheter arterial chemo-embolization, and radiofrequency ablation therapy had been performed. In October 2004, he had undergone partial pulmonary resection due to metastasis of HCC to the lung. The splenic tumor, which was detected by computed tomography, seemed to be a metastasis of HCC. Splenectomy was performed for the splenic tumor, and a jejunal tumor was discovered and also resected. Both the splenic and jejunal tumors were diagnosed pathologically as metastases from the HCC. After repeated treatment for HCC, metastases can appear in various organs; thus, careful observation is necessary during follow-up.

Sonodynamic therapy (SDT), which is non-invasive and controllable has the potential to treat triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). However, the hypoxia and immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) often block the production of reactive oxygen species and the induction of SDT-activated immunogenic cell death, thus limiting the activation of adaptive immune responses. To alleviate these challenges, we proposed the development of a multifunctional biomimetic nanoplatform (mTSeIR), which was designed with diselenide-conjugated sonosensitizers and tirapazamine (TPZ), encapsulated within M1 macrophage membrane.

B cell-based vaccines are expected to provide an alternative to DC-based vaccines. However, the efficacy of antigen uptake by B cells in vitro is relatively low, and efficient antigen-loading methods must be established before B cell-based vaccines are viable in clinical settings. We recently developed an in vitro system that efficiently loads antigens into isolated splenic B cells via liposomes decorated with hydroxyl PEG (HO-PEG-Lips).

Pancreatic cancer is a highly aggressive malignancy with the majority of patients presenting at a late stage with unresectable or metastatic disease. Even with first line treatment, median survival is approximately 11 months in patients with advanced PDAC. This report details the unique case of a patient that presented with peritoneal metastases from an adenocarcinoma of the body of the pancreas, had a remarkable response to palliative chemotherapy and is alive without evidence of disease 12 months following cessation of all active treatment.

Robot-assisted pancreaticobiliary junction resection is a surgical technique employed to treat benign duodenal tumors. The procedure involves several key steps: making a longitudinal incision in the duodenum, excising the tumor at the pancreaticobiliary junction, inserting a biliary stent, connecting the biliary and duodenal mucosa, and suturing the duodenal incision during phase I. The robotic system enhances visibility, facilitates precise operations, minimizes duodenal traction injuries to the duodenum and surgical trauma, ensures accurate suture and fixation of bile duct stents, connects the bile duct and duodenal mucosa and reduces postoperative recovery time.

Splenic cysts are rare medical conditions, and their incidence is dominated by parasitic types. Non-parasitic splenic cysts, whether true cysts (with a cellular lining of the cystic wall) or pseudocysts (without a cellular lining), are significantly rarer than parasitic ones. Their etiology is not fully established, with fetal remnant development, metaplasia, and mesothelial invagination being widely accepted possible mechanisms.
