The rapid charge recombination, low selectivity for two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), and limited O diffusion rate hinder the practical applications of photocatalytic H O generation. Herein, a triphase photocatalytic system in which the H O generation occurs at the air-liquid-solid joint interfaces is developed, using polymeric carbon nitride (PCN). The introduction of pyrrole units and cyano group into PCN can promote the activation of oxygen molecules and facilitate the spatial separation of HOMO and LUMO orbits, hence improving the charge carrier separation efficiency and enhancing the formation of H O .

Cocrystals Enhance Biopharmaceutical and Antimicrobial Properties of Norfloxacin.

Pharmaceutics

August 2023

Graduate Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Pharmacy, Universidade Estadual do Centro-Oeste (UNICENTRO), Guarapuava 85040-080, Brazil.

A solvate cocrystal of the antimicrobial norfloxacin (NFX) was formed by using isonicotinamide (INA) as a coformer with the solvent evaporation technique. The cocrystal formation was confirmed by performing solid-state characterization techniques. We evaluated the dissolution under supersaturated conditions and also the solubility at the vertex of triphasic domain of cocrystal and NFX in both water and Fasted-State Simulated Intestinal Fluid (FaSSIF).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to evaluate how accurately contrast-enhanced dual-energy CT urography (DECTU) images can detect and measure urinary stones compared to traditional unenhanced images, and how well they differentiate between types of calcified stones.
  • A total of 105 patients with identified urinary stones underwent DECTU, which involved capturing images at different phases and analyzing stone sizes and material densities to establish detection rates and differentiation thresholds.
  • Results showed that while all stones were detected with unenhanced images, detection rates dropped significantly with DECTU images in the excretory phase, yet the detection and measurement of stones in the portal venous phase were reliable, allowing for dose reduction during imaging.

Synthesis of trimetallic oxide (FeO-MgO-CuO) nanocomposites and evaluation of their structural and optical properties.

Sci Rep

August 2023

Engineer Abdullah Bugshan Research Chair for Dental and Oral Rehabilitation, College of Dentistry, King Saud University, 11545, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In this paper, tri-phase FeO-MgO-CuO nanocomposites (NCs) and pure CuO, FeO and MgO nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared using sol-gel technique. The physical properties of the prepared products were examined using SEM, XRD, and UV-visible. The XRD data indicated the formation of pure CuO, FeO and MgO NPs, as well as nanocomposite formation with FeO (cubic), MgO (cubic), and CuO (monoclinic).
