Considering the short-term exposure limit of SO2 to be 5 ppm, we first time report that semiconductor sensors based on vanadium doped SnO2 can be used for SO2 leak detection because of their good sensitivity towards SO2 at concentrations down to 5 ppm. Such sensors are quite selective in presence of other gases like carbon monoxide, methane and butane. The high sensitivity of vanadium doped tin dioxide towards SO2 may be understood by considering the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide on SnO2 surface through redox cycles of vanadium-sulfur-oxygen adsorbed species.

Developing nonprecious metal-based electrocatalysts with exceptional activity and durability for water electrolysis remains a significant challenge. Herein, we report a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst composed of sulfur-doped vanadium metal-organic frameworks (S@V-MOF) integrated with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to promote the synergistic effect between S@V-MOF and MWCNTs and modulate the electronic structure of the catalyst, which eventually enhanced its electrocatalytic performance. The S@V-MOF/MWCNT catalyst loaded at the Ni foam electrode exhibits remarkable activity for both the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in acidic media and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline media, requiring overpotentials of 48 and 227 mV, respectively, to reach a current density of 10 mA cm.

Basaltic glass was prepared via the solid-state melt method, using Ce to simulate tetravalent actinides. The structure, thermal stability and leaching characteristics of basaltic glass with different contents of CeO were investigated. The XRD/SEM-EDX/Raman results showed that the simulated waste loading of CeO in basaltic glass reached ~ 18 wt%, and CeO crystals precipitated when the CeO content reached 20 wt%.

Low-cost and effective electrocatalysts are critical for energy storage and conversion. Herein, iron(III) and vanadium(III) acetylacetonates were first adsorbed and confined in porous zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), which further cross-linked together by the methanol-induced-assembly. Following the pyrolysis, the FeVO nanoparticles were efficiently encapsulated within three-dimensional (3D) N-doped interconnected porous carbon, termed FeVO/NIPC.

Enhancing the rate of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) by doping Ni-based electrocatalysts with guest metals other than Fe (V in this work) and the stability of the metal site should be assessed independent of Fe traces and in relation to the guest metal activity in solution. We examined OER catalysis and its sustainability at vanadium-doped nickel phosphide (NiP-V) independent of the role of Fe traces in alkaline. V was included in NiP by codeposition at cathodic bias (termed V) or postdeposition during the phosphide-to-hydroxide surface transformation at anodic bias in alkaline spiked with VCl (termed V).

Suture-associated surgical site infection (SSI) causes bacterial pathogens to colonize on the suture surface that are highly resistant to antibiotic treatment. Conventional suture materials used in surgical practice are causing complications such as infection and chronic inflammation. Surgical suture materials with antibacterial coatings are widely used in surgical practice.
