Two heteroatom-templated Dy(III)-confined polyoxotungstates [HN(CH)]Na[Dy(HO)(WO)(HPSeWO)(α-SeWO)]·31HO () and [HN(CH)]KNa{[Dy(HO)WO][α-SeWO][HPSeWO]}·44HO () were synthesized by a one-pot aqueous reaction and structurally characterized. The most distinctive structural feature of complexes & is the simultaneous presence of both trivacant Keggin [α-SeWO] and Dawson [HPSeWO] building blocks containing P(III)-Se(IV) heteroatoms. The trimeric polyanion of can be represented as a fusion of two trivacant Keggin [α-SeWO] and Dawson [HPSeWO] building units encapsulating the [Dy(HO)(WO)] cluster.

An unprecedented aggregate formed by two bismuth-antimony-europium cluster-imbedded tungsten-oxo clusters and one Krebs-type polyoxotungstate linker [HN(CH)]NaH[WO][B-β-BiWO]{[BiSbEuO(HO)][B-α-SbWO]}·124HO () was prepared. The polyoxoanion skeleton of contains a Krebs-type polyoxotungstate [WO][B-β-BiWO]} ({BiW}) () as a linker that offers six active coordinate O atoms (two μ-O and four μ-O atoms) to grasp two Bi-Sb-Eu cluster-imbedded tungsten-oxo clusters {[BiSbEuO(HO)][B-α-SbWO]} () through Bi-O-W and Sb-O-W bonds. comprises an unprecedented nona-nuclearity Bi-Sb-Eu [BiSbEuO(HO)] cluster encircled by three trivacant [B-α-SbWO]segments in a triangular motif through Eu-O-W, Sb-O-W, and Bi-O-W linkages into a trilobal trimer.

Organic-inorganic hybrid metal-oxide clusters have been pursued for many years, benefiting from their abundant structures and prominent performances. Upon our exploration, a family of unusual mixed-heteroatom (Sb, P)-directing lanthanoid (Ln)-inserted heteropolyoxotungstates (Ln-HPOTs), [(CH)NH]NaH[Ln(HP)W(HO)(Hptca)O][SbWO]·27HO [Ln = Ce (), La (), Pr ()], functionalized by 1,2,3-propanetricarboxylic acid (Hptca) was achieved. The intriguing trimeric [Ln(HP)W(HO)(Hptca)O][SbWO] polyanion was established by two trivacant [B-α-SbWO] segments mounted on both sides and one rare [HPWO] segment at the bottom, which are bridged via an organic-inorganic hybrid [WLn(HO)O(Hptca)] central moiety.

Two unique nanosized Nd-substituted selenotungstates NaK{[WNd(HO)(NO)O](B-α-SeWO)(α-SeWO)}·35HO (1) and [HN(CH)]HNa{[WNd(HO)O(OH)(β-SeWO)][WNd(HO)O(B-α-SeWO)]}·84HO (2) were prepared by reacting NaSeO, NaWO·2HO with Nd(NO)·6HO in aqueous solution by controlling different cations and pH values. 1 was synthesized at pH = 4.3 in the presence of KCl, whereas 2 was synthesized at pH = 3.

The first synthetic pathway using a series of four nonlacunary 4f-heterometal-substituted polyoxotungstate clusters Na[(Ln(HO)(OH)(CHCOO))(WO)(SbWO)]·HO (; Ln = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Y) as precursors for the directed preparation of nine new 3d-4f heterometallic tungstoantimonates KNaH[TM(HO)Ln(HO)(WO)(SbWO)]·HO (; TM = Co, Ni; Ln = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Y) has been developed. Systematic studies revealed an increased K content in the aqueous acidic reaction mixture to be the key step in the cation-directed preparation of 3d-4f compounds; among those, the Co-containing members represent the first examples of (Ln = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Y) heterometallic tungstoantimonates exhibiting the building block. All 13 compounds have been characterized thoroughly in the solid state by powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), revealing a cyclic trimeric polyoxometalate architecture with three units encapsulating a planar triangle of Ln ions in the case of and a heterometallic core of one TM and three Ln for (TM = Co, Ni; Ln = Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Y).
