Enzymes of various glycolysis stages, i.e. hexokinase, phosphofructokinase, pyruvate kinase and lactate dehydrogenase, were detected in cyclosporine-producing organisms belonging to Tolypocladium. The initial activity of the enzymes in the highly active strain was much higher than that in the starting low active strain. During the fermentation the activity of the glycolysis enzymes per 1 mg of mycelium protein in the both strains increased. This was accompanied by a decrease in respiration activity. Therefore, there was a direct correlation between cyclosporine biosynthesis and glycolytic activity of the mycelium in Tolypocladium sp.

Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) is a therapeutic vulnerability in glycolysis-deficient cancers. Here we show that inhibiting OXPHOS similarly suppresses the proliferation and tumorigenicity of glycolytically competent colorectal cancer (CRC) cells in vitro and in patient-derived CRC xenografts. While the increased glycolytic activity rapidly replenished the ATP pool, it did not restore the reduced production of aspartate upon OXPHOS inhibition.

The bioaccumulation and toxic effects of synthetic phenolic antioxidants (SPAs) in aquatic ecosystems are of growing concern due to their widespread use and potential environmental persistence. This study investigated the detoxification and toxicological impacts of 2,6-ditert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT), a representative SPAs, on clams Ruditapes philippinarum using environmentally relevant exposure concentrations. BHT bioaccumulation was observed in both gills and digestive glands, with higher levels in the latter.

Cancer, a complicated disease characterized by aberrant cellular metabolism, has emerged as a formidable global health challenge. Since the discovery of abnormal aldolase A (ALDOA) expression in liver cancer for the first time, its overexpression has been identified in numerous cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC), breast cancer (BC), cervical adenocarcinoma (CAC), non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), gastric cancer (GC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), pancreatic cancer adenocarcinoma (PDAC), and clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Moreover, ALDOA overexpression promotes cancer cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and drug resistance, and is closely related to poor prognosis of patients with cancer.
