The laccase genes lccalpha, lccbeta, lccgamma and lccdelta encoding four isoenzymes from Trametes versicolor have been cloned and expressed in Pichia pastoris. Biochemical characterization allowed classification of these laccases into two distinct groups: Lccalpha and Lccbeta possessed higher thermal stability, but lower catalytic activity towards 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) compared to Lccgamma and Lccdelta. Activities of the laccases were quite different as well. Laccase Lccdelta showed highest phenolic C-C coupling activity with sinapic acid, but lowest oxidizing activity towards polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Highest activity towards PAHs was observed with Lccbeta. After 72h, more than 80% of fluorene, anthracene, acenaphthene and acenaphthylene were oxidized by Lccbeta in the presence of ABTS. Investigation of the structural basis of the different activities of the laccases demonstrated the impact of positions 164 and 265 in the substrate binding site on oxidation of PAHs.

Tree bark is a crucial tissue that defends tree stems from invasions by microorganisms. However, our understanding of the constitutive chemical defense mechanisms of the tree barks remains limited. Our group recently discovered that the inner bark of Sorbus commixta exhibited potent inhibitory effects on the growth of the white-rot fungus, Trametes versicolor.

Laccases that oxidize low-density polyethylene (LDPE) represent a promising strategy for bioremediation purposes. To rationalize or optimize their PE-oxidative activity, two fundamental factors must be considered: the enzyme's redox potential and its binding affinity/mode towards LDPE. Indeed, a stable laccase-PE complex may facilitate a thermodynamically unfavorable electron transfer, even without redox mediators.

In this study, different combinations of mycelium biocomposites (MBs) were developed using primary substrates sourced from the local agricultural, wood processing, and paper industries. The physicomechanical properties, thermal conductivity, and fire behavior were evaluated. The highest bending strength was achieved in composites containing waste fibers and birch sanding dust, with a strength competitive with that of synthetic polymers like EPS and XPS, as well as some commercial building materials.

Macrophages, the most abundant cells that participate in tumour progression, are the subject of a number of anticancer therapy approaches. Our previous results revealed that an extract of the fungus Coriolus versicolor (CV) has anti-cancer and immunomodulatory properties. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether CV extract-treated triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells can release factors that can reprogram macrophages from pro-tumourigenic to anti-cancer subtypes.
