AI Article Synopsis

  • The study assessed the functional state of the central nervous system (CNS) and working capacity of first to fourth-year students at a northern university by analyzing the latency period of their visual motor reactions.
  • Findings indicated that by the end of the academic year, most students exhibited low to negligible working capacity, as measured by reaction stability and functional capacity levels.
  • These criteria are particularly sensitive to changes in CNS function and can help predict the development of effective functional systems in students throughout their academic careers.

Article Abstract

The functional state of the central nervous system (CNS) and the working capacity were objectively evaluated in the first-fourth-year students of a northern higher educational establishment, by statistically analyzing the latent period of a simple visual motor reaction. According to the findings, at the end of an academic year, the working capacity of most students is low and negligibly low, as verified by such functional criteria as the stability of reactions and the level of functional capacities. These criteria show the highest sensitivity to CNS functional fluctuations and can predict the formation of an adequate executive functional system in certain years of students' academic activities.

Background: Nasal high flow (NHF) has been proposed to sustain high intensity exercise in people with COPD, but we have a poor understanding of its physiological effects in this clinical setting.

Research Question: What is the effect of NHF during exercise on dynamic respiratory muscle function and activation, cardiorespiratory parameters, endurance capacity, dyspnoea and leg fatigue as compared to control intervention.

Study Design And Methods: Randomized single-blind crossover trial including COPD patients.

Extreme environments such as hyperarid, hypersaline, hyperthermal environments, and the deep sea harbor diverse microbial communities, which are specially adapted to extreme conditions and are known as extremophiles. These extremophilic organisms have developed unique survival strategies, making them ideal models for studying microbial diversity, evolution, and adaptation to adversity. They also play critical roles in biogeochemical cycles.

This study aimed to explore key informants' views on the potential benefits of workplace oral health promotion (WOHP) among the aged care workforce and identified factors associated with the planning and implementation of such activities. The study interviewed members of key organizations associated with the aged care workforce, including oral health and health professionals, government and non-governmental organizations, aged care providers, unions and other worker support organizations in semi-structured interviews. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim and analysed thematically.

Centre for Research, Education, Innovation and Intervention in Sport (CIFI2D), Faculty of Sports, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal.

The interplay between individual capacities and group performance provides insights for different tasks and contexts. So far, little is known about the individual capacities of base and top gymnasts and mechanical efficiency during pair tasks of Acrobatic Gymnastics. This work aims to investigate: (1) the effect of the pair experience in the mechanical efficiency during a pair task; (2) the effect of the individual training experience in the gymnasts' individual capacities, and (3) the contribution of individual capacities and pair mechanical efficiency to the performance of a partner-assisted flight task.
