Department of Pulmonology and Home Mechanical Ventilation, University of Groningen, University Medical Center Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands.
Purpose: In patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) treated with chronic non-invasive ventilation (NIV), the relation between improvements in nocturnal transcutaneous partial pressure of CO (PtcCO) and daytime arterial partial pressure of CO (PaCO) remains uncertain. Also, to what extent improvements in nocturnal PtcCO result in better health-related quality of life (HRQL), exercise capacity, lung function and survival has not been investigated.
Patients And Methods: Patients with COPD who were initiated on chronic NIV were prospectively followed for 6 months.

Purpose: Radiation exposures do not seem to increase the proportion of mice dying from tumors, but rather cause a shift in the appearance of spontaneous cancers, allowing them to appear earlier, and hence produce a life shortening effect. Then, it was possible to estimate the effect of the dose rate on the carcinogenic effects of radiation using life shortening effects as a measure.
Conclusion: The dose response for the induction of life shortening was linear under acute exposure conditions, which indicates that the response under chronic exposure conditions is also likely to be linear, and hence the dose rate factor (DRF) would be constant throughout the dose.

Introduction: We assessed the risk of adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes and birth defects among women living with HIV (WLHIV) on antiretroviral therapy (ART) and HIV-negative women.
Methods: We analyzed data on live births, stillbirths, and spontaneous abortions during 2015-2021 from a hospital-based birth defects surveillance system in Kampala, Uganda. ART regimens were recorded from hospital records and maternal self-reports.

Background: Extra-articular but severely comminuted distal basal fractures of the proximal phalanx (PP) are rarely reported. Therefore, the aim of this study was to achieve proper union and desirable outcomes using low-profile locking plates/screws. We introduced our own surgical approach and reported the clinical/radiographic outcomes via retrospective case series.

Objectives: Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is defined by elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels (>5 mUI/L) and normal total and free thyroxine levels (fT4). There is ongoing debate over whether mild SCH should be treated. This study aims to assess the clinical course of normoponderal pediatric patients with SCH.
