Four varieties of honey and one variety of freshly reaped royal jelly (RJ) were used to evaluate their additive action against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 29523). In a first step honey and RJ were used separately to determine their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) against the tested strain. In a second step, lower concentrations of honey than the MIC were added to lower concentrations of RJ than the MIC and then incorporated into media to determine the minimum additive inhibitory concentration. When tested separately, the MIC of the four varieties of honey ranged between 20% and 21% (vol/vol), and that of RJ was 2% (vol/vol). When used jointly, all honey varieties had a more than 50% decrease in MIC with 1% (vol/vol) RJ. A strong linear correlation was noted between the MIC decrease of all varieties of honey and RJ.

This study investigates the impact of key factors on the formation of odorants and sensory properties in mead. The effects of the honey type (acacia, buckwheat, linden), wort heating, and the fermentation method (commercial yeasts, spontaneous fermentation, molds) were examined. Twelve model mead batches were produced, matured for 12 months, and analyzed using gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O) and headspace SPME-GC/MS to identify odor-active compounds.

In recent decades, worldwide concerns about the health of honey bees motivated the development of surveys to monitor the colony losses, of which Sub-Saharan Africa has had limited representation. In the context of climate change, understanding how climate affects colony losses has become fundamental, yet literature on this subject is scarce. For the first time, we conducted a survey to estimate the livestock decrease of honey bee colonies in Kenya for the year 2021-2022 to explore the effects of environmental conditions, such as temperature and precipitation, on livestock decrease.

Background: Information sharing and information privacy are important issues in mental health services. Yet the perspectives of Australians who access mental health services about these issues are poorly understood. This article addresses the research question: What are the concerns of people who use mental health services about the collection and use of their health information in mental health and related systems in Australia?
Methods: Participants were 16 people who had accessed mental health services and were involved in a series of co-design workshops as part of a larger study.
