[Evolution of serologically confirmed cases of mumps in the Madrid community, Spain, during a period of 7 years (2000--2006)].

Laboratorio Regional de Salud Pública, Instituto de Salud Pública de la Comunidad de Madrid, Madrid, España.

Published: March 2008

Background And Objective: The aim of this study was to describe the evolution of serologically confirmed cases of mumps in the Madrid Community from 2000 to 2006.

Patients And Method: Cases with data about age, sex and with samples obtained < or = 30 days after the onset of symptoms were included. IgM determination was performed by indirect ELISA (Enzygnost Mumps; Dade Behring). IgM positive cases were considered as confirmed.

Results: Information was available from 1,173 cases. Two hundred and fifty two of them (21.5%) were confirmed. The percentage of confirmed cases by year ranged between 21.4% and 27.2% (except for 2003 [10.7%], and 2004 [2.1%]). In the first years most confirmed cases corresponded to children (85.7% in 2000 and 68.6% in 2001) while in last years it was the opposite (10.7% in 2005 and 23.4% en 2006).

Conclusions: These results indicate the appearance of 2 epidemic waves (in 2000--2002 and in 2005--2006). Currently, mumps should not be considered an exclusively pediatric disease.

Background: Substance use among adolescents is strongly associated with adverse physical, mental health, and social outcomes. Prevention and early intervention can reduce the likelihood of future problems, but requires valid and reliable screening tools capable of assessing risk across a range of substances. This study assessed the validity, reliability, and clinical utility of the Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST-Y) for adolescents aged 15-17 years.

Objectives: This data note presents a comprehensive geodatabase of cardiovascular disease (CVD) hospitalizations in Mashhad, Iran, alongside key environmental factors such as air pollutants, built environment indicators, green spaces, and urban density. Using a spatiotemporal dataset of over 52,000 hospitalized CVD patients collected over five years, the study supports approaches like advanced spatiotemporal modeling, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to predict high-risk CVD areas and guide public health interventions.

Data Description: This dataset includes detailed epidemiologic and geospatial information on CVD hospitalizations in Mashhad, Iran, from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2020.

Global Health Research Division, Public Health Research Center and Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Wuxi School of Medicine, Jiangnan University, Wuxi, 214122, Jiangsu, China.

Purpose: New cases and deaths of gastrointestinal cancers are predicted to increase significantly by 2040. This study aims to explore cross-country inequalities and trends in global burdens of colon and rectum cancer (CRC), esophageal cancer (EC) and gastric cancer (GC).

Methods: Data from the Global Burden of Diseases Study 2019 were analyzed to examine trends in disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for three gastrointestinal cancers with estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) and Joinpoint analysis.

Adult-onset leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids and pigmented glia (ALSP) is a rare white matter disease characterized by axonal and glial injury. Although its clinical characteristics have been described in case reports, the prevalence of CSF1R mutations in clinically suspected ALSP cases remains unclear. Herein, we analysed the frequency of CSF1R mutations in patients with probable or possible ALSP and describe the genetic, clinical, radiological, and pathological findings of ALSP cases in individuals of Korean ancestry.

Correct classification of type 1 (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) is challenging due to overlapping clinical features and the increasingly early onset of T2D, particularly in South Asians. Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) for T1D and T2D have been shown to work relatively well in South Asians, despite being derived from largely European-ancestry samples. Here we used PRSs to investigate the rate of potential misclassification of diabetes amongst British Bangladeshis and Pakistanis.
