High altitude pulmonary oedema (HAPE) is a well-known potential hazard of activities at high altitudes but not a common disease presentation that most emergency physicians have experience treating. The mainstay of treatment is intuitive--early recognition with immediate descent, rest and oxygen--but what does the emergency physician do when a patient is in severe distress from HAPE even after descent to sea level? A case of severe HAPE is presented in a young man; the successful treatment strategy is outlined including non-invasive positive pressure ventilation. The role of calcium antagonists, corticosteroids and phosphodiesterase inhibitors are also discussed in the acute management of this potentially life-threatening condition.

Mesoporous materials have garnered significant interest because of their porous structure, large surface area and ease of surface functionalization to incorporate the functional groups of choice. Herein, chiral mesoporous silica nanoparticles (CMSNPs) were prepared using quaternary amino silane as the template, tetramethyl orthosilicate as the silica source and proline and cellulose as chiral selector. The developed CMSNPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, BET surface area analysis and BJH pore size/volume analysis.

Background And Purpose: The hemoglobin levels in the peripheral blood of individuals living at high altitudes are significantly higher than normal levels. These levels are closely associated with atherosclerosis and cardiovascular events. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between hemoglobin levels in the peripheral blood and hypertension in high-altitude regions, providing a basis for preventing and treating primary hypertension in these regions.

The spectral reflectance provides valuable information regarding vegetation growth and plays an important role in agriculture, forestry, and grassland management. In this study, a small, portable vegetation canopy reflectance (VCR) sensor that can operate throughout the day was developed. The sensor includes two optical bands at 710 nm and 870 nm, with the light separated by filters, and has a field of view of 28°.

Substantial changes resulting from the interaction of environmental and dietary factors contribute to an increased risk of obesity, while their specific associations with obesity remain unclear. Identify inflammation-related dietary patterns (DPs) and explore their associations with obesity among urbanized Tibetan adults under significant environmental and dietary changes.Totally, 1826 subjects from the suburbs of Golmud City were enrolled in an open cohort study, of which 514 were followed up.
