A traditional approach for assessing similarity among N (N > 2) communities is to use multiple pairwise comparisons. However, pairwise similarity indices do not completely characterize multiple-community similarity because the information shared by at least three communities is ignored. We propose a new and intuitive two-stage probabilistic approach, which leads to a general framework to simultaneously compare multiple communities based on abundance data. The approach is specifically used to extend the commonly used Morisita index and NESS (normalized expected species shared) index to the case of N communities. For comparing N communities, a profile of N- 1 indices is proposed to characterize similarity of species composition across communities. Based on sample abundance data, nearly unbiased estimators of the proposed indices and their variances are obtained. These generalized NESS and Morisita indices are applied to comparison of three size classes of plant data (seedling, saplings, and trees) within old-growth and secondary rain forest plots in Costa Rica.

Networks in the parietal and premotor cortices enable essential human abilities regarding motor processing, including attention and tool use. Even though our knowledge on its topography has steadily increased, a detailed picture of hemisphere-specific integrating pathways is still lacking. With the help of multishell diffusion magnetic resonance imaging, probabilistic tractography, and the Graph Theory Analysis, we investigated connectivity patterns between frontal premotor and posterior parietal brain areas in healthy individuals.

Objective: To determine the association between Peruvian children toothbrushing and head of household educational attainment.
Methods: Cross-sectional study with two-stage, probabilistic, stratified, balanced and independent sampling. The independent variable was the highest level of education of the head of household, and the dependent variables were general toothbrushing, daily toothbrushing and toothbrushing at least twice a day; the co-variables were: wealth index, health insurance tendency, natural region, area of residence, place of residence, sex and age.

Monitoring water quality through efficient quantification of water quality parameters (WQPs) is of paramount importance to environmental management of urban rivers. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote sensing techniques posed a great opportunity for visualizing spatial distributions of WQPs concentrations with higher flexibility and monitoring frequency compared to satellite remote sensing techniques, assisting to trace potential contamination sources and prevent water quality from degradation. However, current methods of water quality monitoring usually involved large masses of water samples as training data to keep calculation accuracy every time their study area changed, increasing financial cost and incurring time delay in monitoring and evaluating water quality.

Dating violence can manifest itself in different ways, with important consequences for both members of the couple. Due to the normalization of certain behaviour and the perceived quality of the relationship, it may be difficult to identify this violent dynamic in its early stages, allowing it to escalate and lead to severe levels of violent behaviour. This study aims to analyse violent profiles using latent class analysis (LCA) and explore the role of relationship quality variables as risk factors for those profiles.
