We investigate the intrinsic spin Hall conductivity (SHC) and the d-orbital Hall conductivity (OHC) in metallic d-electron systems, by focusing on the t2g-orbital tight-binding model for Sr2MO4 (M=Ru, Rh, Mo). The conductivities obtained are one or 2 orders of magnitude larger than predicted values for p-type semiconductors with approximately 5% hole doping. The origin of these giant Hall effects is the "effective Aharonov-Bohm phase" that is induced by the d-atomic angular momentum in connection with the spin-orbit interaction and the interorbital hopping integrals. The huge SHC and OHC generated by this mechanism are expected to be ubiquitous in multiorbital transition metal compounds, which opens the possibility of realizing spintronics as well as "orbitronics" devices.

Spin labels based on Gd complexes are important tools for the elucidation of the structure, dynamics and interaction of biomolecules by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Their EPR spectroscopic properties line width and relaxation times influence their performance in a particular application. To be able to apply a complex well-suited for a specific application, a set of Gd complexes with different EPR spectroscopic properties ready-made for spin labeling will be highly useful.

In this work, using first-principles calculations, we predict a promising class of two-dimensional ferromagnetic semiconductors, namely Janus PrXY (X ≠ Y = Cl, Br, I) monolayers. Through first-principles calculations, we found that PrXY monolayers have excellent dynamic and thermal stability, and their band structures, influenced by magnetic exchange and spin-orbital coupling, exhibit significant valley polarization. Between and - valleys, the Berry curvature values are opposite to each other, resulting in the anomalous valley Hall effect.

The quantum-well-like two-dimensional lead-halide perovskites exhibit strongly confined excitons due to the quantum confinement and reduced dielectric screening effect, which feature intriguing excitonic effects. The ionic nature of the perovskite crystal and the "softness" of the lattice induce the complex lattice dynamics. There are still open questions about how the soft lattices decorate the nature of excitons in these hybrid materials.

Establishing the relationship between catalytic performance and material structure is crucial for developing design principles for highly active catalysts. Herein, a type of perovskite fluoride, NHMnF, which owns strong-field coordination including fluorine and ammonia, is in situ grown on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and used as a model structure to study and improve the intrinsic catalytic activity through heteroatom doping strategies. This approach optimizes spin-dependent orbital interactions to alter the charge transfer between the catalyst and reactants.

The discovery of superconductivity in twisted bilayer and trilayer graphene has generated tremendous interest. The key feature of these systems is an interplay between interlayer coupling and a moiré superlattice that gives rise to low-energy flat bands with strong correlations. Flat bands can also be induced by moiré patterns in lattice-mismatched and/or twisted heterostructures of other two-dimensional materials, such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs).
