The CoO2 layers in NaxCoO2 may be viewed as a spin S=1/2 triangular-lattice doped with charge carriers. The underlying physics of the cobaltates is very similar to that of the high T_(c) cuprates. We will present unequivocal 59Co NMR evidence that below T_(CO) approximately 51 K, the insulating ground state of the itinerant antiferromagnet Na0.5CoO2 (T_(N) approximately 86 K) is induced by charge ordering.

Design strategies for molecular thermometers by magnetic resonance are essential for enabling new noninvasive means of temperature mapping for disease diagnoses and treatments. Herein we demonstrate a new design strategy for thermometry based on chemical control of the vibrational partition function. To do so, we performed variable-temperature Co NMR investigations of four air-stable Co(iii) complexes: Co(accp) (1), Co(bzac) (2), Co(Bu-acac) (3), and Co(acac) (4) (accp = 2-acetylcyclopentanonate; bzac = benzoylacetonate; Bu-acac = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate and acac = acetylacetonate).

Cross-polarization (CP) is a technique commonly used for the signal enhancement of NMR spectra; however, applications to quadrupolar nuclei have heretofore been limited due to a number of problems, including poor spin-locking efficiency, inconvenient relaxation times, and reduced CP efficiencies over broad spectral bandwidths─this is unfortunate, since they constitute 73% of NMR-active nuclei in the periodic table. The Broadband Adiabatic Inversion CP (BRAIN-CP) pulse sequence has proven useful for the signal enhancement of wideline and ultra-wideline (i.e.

The use of metal powders produced by mechanical treatment in various fields, such as catalysis or gas absorption, is often limited by the low specific surface area of the resulting particles. One of the possible solutions for increasing the particle fineness is hydrogen treatment; however, its effect on the structure of mechanically treated powders remains unexplored. In this work, for the first time, a metal-oxide nanocomposite powder was produced by mechanical alloying (MA) in a high-energy planetary ball mill from commercial powders of Zr and Co in the atomic ratio Co:Zr = 53:47 in an inert atmosphere, followed by high-pressure hydrogenation at room temperature.

Both four-component relativistic and nonrelativistic computations within the GIAO-DFT(PBE0) formalism have been carried out for N and Co NMR shielding constants and chemical shifts of a number of the nitrogen-coordinated complexes of cobalt. It was found that the total values of the calculated nitrogen chemical shifts of considered cobalt complexes span over a range of more than 580 ppm, varying from -452 to +136 ppm. At that, the relativistic corrections to nitrogen shielding constants and chemical shifts were demonstrated to be substantial, changing accordingly from ca.

The magnetic properties of cobalt metal nanowires grown by electrodeposition in porous membranes depend largely on the synthesis conditions. Here, we focus on the role of electrolyte additives on the magnetic anisotropy of the electrodeposited nanowires. Through magnetometry and internal field nuclear magnetic resonance (IF NMR) studies, we compared both the magnetic and crystalline structures of 50 and 200 nm diameter Co nanowires synthesized in the presence or absence of organic additives.
