We calculate exactly the vacuum polarization charge density in the field of a subcritical Coulomb impurity, Z|e|/r, in graphene. Our analysis is based on the exact electron Green's function, obtained by using the operator method, and leads to results that are exact in the parameter Zalpha, where alpha is the "fine-structure constant" of graphene. Taking into account also electron-electron interactions in the Hartree approximation, we solve the problem self-consistently in the subcritical regime, where the impurity has an effective charge Z(eff), determined by the localized induced charge. We find that an impurity with bare charge Z=1 remains subcritical, Z(eff)alpha<1/2, for any alpha, while impurities with Z=2, 3 and higher can become supercritical at certain values of alpha.

The low-frequency resistance fluctuations, or noise, in electrical resistance not only set a performance benchmark in devices but also form a sensitive tool to probe nontrivial electronic phases and band structures in solids. Here, we report the measurement of such noise in the electrical resistance in twisted bilayer graphene (tBLG), where the layers are misoriented close to the magic angle (θ ∼ 1°). At high temperatures ( ≳ 60-70 K), the power spectral density (PSD) of the fluctuation inside the low-energy moiré bands is predominantly ∝1/, where is the frequency, being generally lowest close to the magic angle, and can be well-explained within the conventional McWhorter model of the '1/ noise' with trap-assisted density-mobility fluctuations.

Interfacial ferroelectricity emerges in non-centrosymmetric heterostructures consisting of non-polar van der Waals (vdW) layers. Ferroelectricity with concomitant Coulomb screening can switch topological currents or superconductivity and simulate synaptic response. So far, it has only been realized in bilayer graphene moiré superlattices, posing stringent requirements to constituent materials and twist angles.

Arsenocholine-containing methacrylate (MTAsB) inspired by marine organisms was synthesized by the reaction of 2-bromoethyl methacrylate and trimethylarsine to investigate its polymerization behavior and the fundamental properties of the resulting polymer. Controlled radical polymerization of MTAsB proceeded in the presence of a copper catalyst and imidazolium chloride at 60 °C for 8 h to give a water-soluble polycation with a 94% yield. The smaller amount of nonfreezing water and intermediate water of poly(MTAsB) was observed compared with that of the ammonium-containing polycations.

Quantum mechanics has proved to be suitable for the study of molecular systems. In particular, the Born-Oppenheimer approximation enables one to separate the motions of electrons and nuclei. In the case of diatomic molecules, this approximation leads to the so-called potential-energy function that provides the interaction between the two nuclei.

The fundamental characteristics of collective interactions in topological band structures can be revealed by the exploration of charge screening in topological materials. In particular, distinct anisotropic screening behaviors are predicted to occur in Dirac nodal line semimetals (DNLSMs) due to their peculiar anisotropic low-energy dispersion. Despite the recent extensive theoretical research, experimental observations of exotic charge screening in DNLSMs remain elusive, which is partly attributed to the coexisting trivial bands near the Fermi energy.
