A fourfold interpenetrating diamondoid network, [{[Ni(cyclam)]2-(mtb)}(n)].8n H2O.4n DMF (1) (MTB=methanetetrabenzoate, DMF=dimethylformamide), has been assembled from [Ni(cyclam)][ClO4]2 (cyclam=1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) and methanetetrabenzoic acid (H4MTB) in DMF/H2O (7:3, v/v) in the presence of triethylamine (TEA). Despite the high-fold interpenetration, 1 generates 1D channels that are occupied by water and DMF guest molecules. Solid 1, after removal of guest molecules, exhibits selective gas adsorption behavior for H2, CO2, and O2 rather than N2 and CH4, suggesting possible applications in gas separation technologies. In addition, solid 1 can be applied in the fabrication of small Pd (2.0+/-0.6 nm) nanoparticles without any extra reducing or capping agent because a Ni II macrocyclic species incorporated in 1 reduces Pd II ions to Pd 0 on immersion of 1 in the solution of Pd(NO3)2.2H2O in MeCN at room temperature.

Three fluorescent Zn coordaintion polymers (CPs) have been synthesized from the reactions of Zn(NO3)2∙6H2O, benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (1,4-H2bdc), and angular carbazole-derived bispyridyl ligands (Cz-3,6-bpy or Cz-Pr-3,6-bpy). CPs 1-3 all adopt similar two-dimensional (2D) ring-and-rod layer structures, described as topologically 4-connected 2∙65 nets where the Zn(II) centers act as 4-connected nodes. CPs 1 and 2 are a pair of solvent-mediated supramolecular isomers where the former shows a two-fold interlocked 2D → 2D polyrotaxane-like entangled net and the latter reveals a four-fold interpenetrated 2D → 3D polyrotaxane entanglement.

Two-dimensional conductive metal-organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) with high electrical conductivity and tunable structures hold significant promise for applications in metal-ion batteries. However, the construction of 3D interpenetrated c-MOFs for applications in metal-ion batteries is rarely reported. Herein, a 3D four-fold interpenetrated c-MOF (Cu-DBC) constructed by conjugated and contorted dibenzo[,]chrysene-2,3,6,7,10,11,14,15-octaol (DBC) ligands is explored as an advanced cathode material for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) for the first time.

The development of porous materials with flexible-robust characteristics shows some unique advantages to target high performance for gas separation, but remains a daunting challenge to achieve so far. Herein, we report a carboxyl-based hydrogen-bonded organic framework (ZJU-HOF-8a) with flexible-robust porosity for efficient purification of natural gas. ZJU-HOF-8a features a four-fold interpenetrated structure with dia topology, wherein abundant supramolecular entanglements are formed between the adjacent subnetworks through weak intermolecular hydrogen bonds.

Tribological Properties of Polyimide Composites Modified with Diamondoid Metal-Organic Frameworks.

Polymers (Basel)

State Key Laboratory of Solid Lubrication, Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou 73000, China.

In this work, diamondoid metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were efficiently prepared by sonochemical synthesis and grown on polyimide (PI), aiming to improve the anti-wear performance of the PI matrix. By introducing MOFs into the PI matrix, the free movement of PI molecular chains were restricted, and its hardness and elastic modulus were improved. It was found that the wear rate of the 3 wt.

Recent work has demonstrated that temporary crosslinks in polymer networks generated by chemical "fuels" afford materials with large, transient changes in their mechanical properties. This can be accomplished in carboxylic-acid-functionalized polymer hydrogels using carbodiimides, which generate anhydride crosslinks with lifetimes on the order of minutes to hours. Here, the impact of the polymer network architecture on the mechanical properties of transiently crosslinked materials was explored.
