Disentangling the neural underpinnings of response inhibition in disruptive behavior and co-occurring ADHD.

Eur Child Adolesc Psychiatry

January 2025

Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands.

While impaired response inhibition has been reported in attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), findings in disruptive behavior disorders (DBDs) have been inconsistent, probably due to unaccounted effects of co-occurring ADHD in DBD. This study investigated the associations of behavioral and neural correlates of response inhibition with DBD and ADHD symptom severity, covarying for each other in a dimensional approach. Functional magnetic resonance imaging data were available for 35 children and adolescents with DBDs (8-18 years old, 19 males), and 31 age-matched unaffected controls (18 males) while performing a performance-adjusted stop-signal task.

Background: African Americans experience cardiovascular disease (CVD) disparities, and the burden is greatest in the rural south. Although evidence-based CVD prevention and management programs have been tailored to this context, implementation has been limited and not sustained long-term. To understand how to implement and sustain evidence-based CVD programs at scale, we must explore the perspectives of organizations serving rural African American communities and situate findings within foundational Implementation Science frameworks.

Exploring the purpose and stages of patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) in audiology research: a case study approach.

Res Involv Engagem

January 2025

Patient Researcher and PPI Lead, College of Health and Life Sciences, Aston University, Birmingham, UK.

Background: Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) has become an integral component of contemporary audiology research. It aims to capture diverse views and experiences, essential for evaluating the long-term impact of technological advancements and care models on individuals. Traditional inclusion methods, such as focus groups, may exclude individuals with additional needs or communication difficulties, necessitating the development of more inclusive approaches.

Within-domain and across-domain compensation: a systematic review, integrative framework and future research agenda.

BMC Psychol

January 2025

School of Management, Jinan University, No.601, Huangpu Avenue West, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, 510632, China.

Different from previous studies on the motives of compensatory consumption, this review focuses on the strategies of compensatory consumption. This literature review aims to introduce two main strategies for compensatory consumption, within-domain and across-domain compensation. Within-domain compensation is a consumption strategy to repair a self-discrepancy in a specific domain, while across-domain compensation refers to a consumption strategy that consumers restore their global self-worth by affirming themselves in other important domains yet unrelated to the self-discrepancies.

Background: Healthcare resources have been concentrated in urban areas, leaving rural regions vulnerable to poorer health outcomes. The Problem Solving for Better Health (PSBH) program was implemented to enhance healthcare systems in resource-limited regions by training personnel to maximize existing resources in problem-solving. This study evaluated the implementation effectiveness of PSBH-Nursing (PSBHN), a nationally led initiative to train nurses in PSBH in Lesotho.
