The missing data problem in birth weight percentiles and thresholds for "small-for-gestational-age".

Published: April 2008

Weight-for-gestational-age charts and definitions of "small-for-gestational-age" based on the distribution of livebirths at a given gestational age have conventionally been used to identify infants whose fetal growth is poor. However, references based on the weights of only livebirths have serious shortcomings at preterm ages due to missing data on the weights of fetuses still in utero, and these missing data introduce considerable bias to etiologic studies of fetal growth restriction. Application of standard epidemiologic approaches for missing data is needed to help produce perinatal weight percentiles that provide unbiased assessment of fetal growth and risks of small-for-gestational-age.

Latent transition analysis (LTA) is a useful statistical modelling approach for describe transitions between latent classes over time. LTA may be characterized in terms of prevalence at each time point and through transition probabilities over time. Investigating predictors of these transitions is often of key interest.

Background: Chronic schistosomiasis causes multiple organ and multiple system diseases, especially the digestive system. Schistosome eggs are mainly deposited in the stomach, liver and colorectal, but a few eggs are deposited in the appendix and cause disease. At present, there are few studies on schistosomal appendicitis.

Introduction: Publishing medical metadata stored in case report forms (CRFs) is a prerequisite for the development of a learning health system (LHS) by fostering reuse of metadata and standardization in health research. The aim of our study was to investigate medical researchers' (MRs) willingness to share CRFs, to identify reasons for and against CRF sharing, and to determine if and under which conditions MRs might consider sharing CRF metadata via a public registry.

Methods: We examined CRF data sharing commitments for 1842 interventional trials registered on the German Clinical Trials Registry (DRKS) from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2021.

Determinants of COVID-19 vaccination coverage in European and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries.

Centre for Health Economics Research and Modelling Infectious Diseases, Vaccine and Infectious Disease Institute, University of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium.

Introduction: In relatively wealthy countries, substantial between-country variability in COVID-19 vaccination coverage occurred. We aimed to identify influential national-level determinants of COVID-19 vaccine uptake at different COVID-19 pandemic stages in such countries.

Methods: We considered over 50 macro-level demographic, healthcare resource, disease burden, political, socio-economic, labor, cultural, life-style indicators as explanatory factors and coverage with at least one dose by June 2021, completed initial vaccination protocols by December 2021, and booster doses by June 2022 as outcomes.

Rationale & Objective: Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) is a common, underrecognized condition in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially those receiving hemodialysis (HD). The present study analyzed the clinical treatment journey and overall burden of pruritus among patients with CKD-aP.

Study Design: Cross-sectional, patient-reported online survey.
