Solid-phase extractions followed by HPLC-UV/DAD methods were developed for occupational biological monitoring or forensic investigations of the fungicide folpet using its degradation products, phthalimide and phthalamic acid as plasma biomarkers. These methods show good linearity (r>0.9955), precision (CV<15%) and accuracy (bias<14.8%). The lower limits of quantification for phthalimide and phthalamic acid were 10 and 20 ng/ml and the absolute recoveries were higher than 86% and 68%, respectively. Applying these methods, a plasma toxicokinetic study of folpet in rats after intratracheal administration of Folpan 80WG showed that inhalation of folpet could be a route of exposure with an important systemic absorption.

A method was developed for determining five organochlorine unstable pesticides (captan, chlorothalonil, dichlofluanid, folpet, and tolylfluanid) in agricultural products using GC-MS/MS. To prevent pesticide degradation, the food sample was maintained at -20℃ until the initiation of the extraction process. The sample underwent homogenization with acetonitrile and salting out using anhydrous magnesium sulfate and sodium chloride in the presence of citrate salts.

In this article, we have studied the potential of flexible microtube plasma (FμTP) as ionization source for the liquid chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry detection of non-easily ionizable pesticides (viz. nonpolar and non-ionizable by acid/basic moieties). Phthalimide-related compounds such as dicofol, dinocap, o-phenylphenol, captan, captafol, folpet and their metabolites were studied.

Pesticides in the atmosphere can exist in both gaseous and particulate phases due to their semi-volatile properties. They can undergo degradation when exposed to atmospheric oxidants like ozone and hydroxyl radicals. The majority of studies on the atmospheric reactivity of pesticides study them in combination, without considering potential mixture effects that could induce uncertainties in the results.

Folpet, a phthalimide fungicide, is an agrochemical used to prevent fungal diseases in several crops. The toxicity of folpet has been demonstrated in Cyprinus carpio, pigs, and the human respiratory system. However, despite the possibilities of ingestion of folpet through feed, detrimental influences of folpet on dairy cattle have not been documented.

Among pesticides, fungicides are the most extensively used ones in agriculture and their effects on fish health and indirectly human health are needed to evaluate. Folpet has been used for over 50 years as a fungicide across the world. The mechanism of action of folpet on non-target aquatic organisms is so poorly understood and there is no available information about potential acute toxicity of folpet and its mechanism of action in non-target aquatic organisms.
