Influence of Isatin on rat tissue acid phosphatase has been studied. It has an organ-specific effect, the liver enzyme is activated, the brain enzyme is inhibited while those of kidney and intestine are not affected. Isatin activation of the liver enzyme is of mixed type and pH dependent. Rat liver enzyme appears to require intact amino and sulfhydryl groups for activity. Isatin seems to combine with the enzyme through the sulfhydryl group of the latter.

Cholesterol ester storage disease (CESD) is a rare autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder caused by mutations in the LIPA gene, leading to reduced lysosomal acid lipase activity, cholesterol ester accumulation, and systemic manifestations including liver dysfunction and dyslipidemia. We report the case of a 25-year-old male presenting with subacute jaundice, hyperbilirubinemia (total bilirubin 51 mg/dL, predominantly direct), and dyslipidemia characterized by elevated total cholesterol and low HDL cholesterol levels. Initial diagnostic workup for acute hepatitis and liver dysfunction, including serological and imaging studies, was unremarkable.

We report the case of a 59-year-old woman with a history of smoking, hypertension, and prior surgeries. She presented with acute right upper quadrant abdominal pain radiating to the back. Laboratory tests revealed elevated liver enzymes and imaging studies (CT and MRCP) showed a dilated common bile duct.

Background: Dogs with hepatocutaneous syndrome (HCS) have marked plasma hypoaminoacidemia, but its occurrence in dogs with chronic liver diseases not associated with HCS (non-HCS CLD) is unknown.
Objectives: To determine if plasma hypoaminoacidemia occurs in dogs with non-HCS CLD, compare plasma amino acid (PAA) profiles between dogs with non-HCS CLD and HCS, and define a sensitive and specific PAA pattern for diagnosing HCS.
Animals: Data were collected from client-owned dogs, a prospective cohort of 32 with CLD and 1 with HCS, and a retrospective cohort of 7 with HCS.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are highly prevalent diseases that constitute enormous public health problems. The efficacy of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors in blood glucose control in T2DM patients with NAFLD has been established, but little is known about its effect on liver enzyme levels.
Objective: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the influences of DPP-4 inhibitors on alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in patients with T2DM and NAFLD.

Objective: Organophosphorus Nerve Agent, VX [(O-Ethyl S-diisopropylaminomethyl) methylphosphonothioate] compound interferes with acetylcholine signaling by targeting the AChE enzyme. Studies suggest that in nerve agents poisoning, non-cholinergic effects are also responsible for damage in peripheral tissues including long term damage in brain. Present study reports cholinergic and non-cholinergic effects of VX poisoning and their prevention by use of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in addition to conventional antidotes atropine sulphate and 2-PAM chloride as an antioxidant.
