Aims And Background: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the outcome of metastatic colorectal cancer patients treated, as first line, with 5-fluorouracil bolus/leucovorin + oxaliplatin, in terms of response, progression-free and overall survival.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective cohort of consecutive metastatic colorectal cancer patients, treated from 2003 to 2006, was identified and analyzed. All patients, without a central venous device, were treated with oxaliplatin + 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin.

Results: Twenty-five metastatic colorectal cancer patients were treated. No 3-4 grade toxicity was observed. Five of 23 patients achieved a partial response: one of them resulted in a complete response after radiofrequency and another one after surgery. Fifteen of 23 patients had stable disease (one underwent radical surgery after chemotherapy, obtaining a complete remission) and 3 had progressive disease. Median progression-free survival was 7.2 months, and median overall survival was 30 months.

Conclusions: Based on this case-series study, the regimen seems to offer a good control of disease (86.9%) and can be considered as an alternative choice for patients who cannot receive continuous infusion.

Objective: The costs related to robotic surgery are known to be greater than those associated with laparoscopy. However, the potential for better outcomes of the former could lead to a cost-effectiveness advantage. The aim of this study is therefore to highlight the difference in cost-effectiveness between robotic and laparoscopic rectal resection.

Clinical implications of disappearing pancreatic cancer liver metastases: Lessons from colorectal liver metastases.

Eur J Surg Oncol

January 2025

Division of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Cancer Institute Hospital, Japanese Foundation for Cancer Research, Tokyo, Japan. Electronic address:

Background: The efficacy of local control for pancreatic cancer liver metastases (PCLM), including surgical treatment, remains controversial, with no consensus on the management and clinical significance of disappearing liver metastases (DLMs). This study aimed to evaluate the clinical implications of DLMs in treating PCLM after multi-agent chemotherapy, utilizing contrast-enhanced imaging modalities.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent curative resection for pancreatic cancer with synchronous or metachronous liver metastases between 2014 and 2023.

Purpose: Identifying therapeutic targets for Signet Ring Cell Carcinoma (SRCC) of the colon and rectum is a clinical challenge due to the lack of Patient-Derived Organoids (PDO) or Xenografts (PDX). We present a robust method to establish PDO and PDX models to answer address this unmet need. We demonstrate that these models identify novel therapeutic strategies targeting therapy resistance and peritoneal metastasis.

Clinicopathologic stratification demonstrates survival differences between endometrial carcinomas with mismatch repair deficiency and no specific molecular profile: a cohort study.

Helsinki University Hospital and University of Helsinki, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Helsinki, Finland; University of Helsinki, Faculty of Medicine, Helsinki University Hospital and Research Program in Applied Tumor Genomics, Department of Pathology, Helsinki, Finland.

Objective: Endometrial carcinomas with mismatch repair deficiency (MMRd) and no specific molecular profile (NSMP) are considered to have intermediate prognoses. However, potential prognostic differences between these molecular subgroups remain unclear due to the lack of standardized control for clinicopathologic factors. This study aims to evaluate outcomes of MMRd and NSMP endometrial carcinomas across guideline-based clinicopathologic risk groups.

Blunt abdominal trauma frequently results in visceral injury to either solid or hollow organs; however, injury to the gallbladder is rare. This is most likely due to the anatomical position of the gallbladder, which is well-insulated posterior to the liver and rib cage. Gallbladder injuries can be in the form of avulsion, contusion, or laceration.
