Unlabelled: A 16-year-old man presented to the Accident and Emergence services with a 10-day history of shortness of breath, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhoea, poor oral intake, chest pain, jaundice, diplopia and reduced urine output. He was initially treated for sepsis, however, subsequent imaging and blood cultures confirmed the diagnosis of Lemierre's syndrome (LS). LS, also known as necrobacillosis or post-pharyngitis anaerobic septicaemia is comprised of a triad of metastatic septic emboli secondary to pharyngitis, bacteraemia, and internal jugular vein thrombophlebitis.

Background: Despite muscle power derived from the 5-rep sit-to-stand (STS) test having been demonstrated to be a valuable biomarker in older individuals, there is limited information regarding muscle power derived from the 30-s STS test, a widely used test in the clinical setting. This study aimed (i) to compare relative 30-s STS power values between older men and women, (ii) to identify cut-off points for low relative 30-s STS power, (iii) to compare the prevalence of low relative STS power between sexes and (iv) to evaluate the association of low relative 30-s STS power with adverse conditions in older people.
Methods: A total of 1475 community-dwelling older adults (65-98 years; 45% men) from the Toledo Study for Healthy Aging were included.

Background: High-income countries (HICs) are over-represented in current global dementia incidence rates, skewing estimates. Variance in diagnostic methods between HICs and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is speculated to contribute to the regional differences in rates. Cohort Studies of Memory in an International Consortium (COSMIC) offers a unique opportunity to address these research inequalities by harmonising data from international studies, including representation from LMICs.

Obesity and iron deficiency (ID) are widespread health issues, with subclinical inflammation in obesity potentially contributing to ID through unclear mechanisms. The aim of the present work was to elucidate how obesity-associated inflammation disturb iron metabolism and to investigate the effect of intravenous (IV) iron supplementation on absolute iron deficient pre-obese (BMI 25.0-29.
