'Epigenomics' can be termed as the study of the effects of chromatin structure, including the higher order of chromatin folding and attachment to the nuclear matrix, packaging of DNA around nucleosomes, covalent modifications of histone tails and DNA methylation. This has evolved to include any process that alters gene activity without changing the DNA sequence, and leads to modifications that can be transmitted to daughter cells. It also leads to a better knowledge of the changes in the regulation of genes and genomes that occur in major psychosis. It may also aid in understanding why the same gene sequence may predispose an individual to schizophrenia or bipolar disorder and in other cases does not, and elucidate the molecular mechanisms of how harmful; environmental factors interact with the genome. Results from the work may further lead to new diagnostics and effective therapies.

Cultured human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) can develop genetic anomalies that increase their susceptibility to transformation. In this study, we characterized a variant hESC (vhESC) line and investigated the molecular mechanisms leading to the drift towards a transformed state. Our findings revealed that vhESCs up-regulate EMT-specific markers, accelerate wound healing, exhibit compromised lineage differentiation, and retain pluripotency gene expression in teratomas.

Genetic evidence for the causal effects of air pollution on the risk of respiratory diseases.

Background: Epidemiological studies have consistently demonstrated a robust association between long-term exposure to air pollutants and respiratory diseases. However, establishing causal relationships remains challenging due to residual confounding in observational studies. In this study, Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was used to explore the causal and epigenetic relationships between various air pollutants and common respiratory diseases.

Tianjin-monkey Chicken is a locally bred naked neck poultry with limited population size. Herein, we intended to identify potential breed-related genes based on methylome and transcriptome analyses. Tianjin-monkey Chicken and Hy-line Brown Chicken were crossbred and the individuals were divided into three groups: PN (Purebred naked neck chicken(Tianjin-monkey Chicken)) group (n = 10); CN (Crossbred naked neck chicken) group (n = 10); CF (Crossbred feathered chicken) group (n = 10).

Neurodegenerative diseases present complex genetic architectures, reflecting a continuum from monogenic to oligogenic and polygenic models. Recent advances in multi-omics data, coupled with systems genetics, have significantly refined our understanding of how these data impact neurodegenerative disease mechanisms. To contextualize these genetic discoveries, we provide a comprehensive critical overview of genetic architecture concepts, from Mendelian inheritance to the latest insights from oligogenic and omnigenic models.

Descart: a method for detecting spatial chromatin accessibility patterns with inter-cellular correlations.

Spatial epigenomic technologies enable simultaneous capture of spatial location and chromatin accessibility of cells within tissue slices. Identifying peaks that display spatial variation and cellular heterogeneity is the key analytic task for characterizing the spatial chromatin accessibility landscape of complex tissues. Here, we propose an efficient and iterative model, Descart, for spatially variable peaks identification based on the graph of inter-cellular correlations.
