Background: Predicting Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) using polygenic risk scores (PRS) for late-onset forms holds promise, but its accuracy might be influenced by social determinants of health (SDOH). This study explores how considering SDOH alongside genes can improve prediction, focusing on potential differences for each disease.
Methods: Employing logistic regression in 677 individuals (287 AD, 102 FTD, and 288 controls) aged 40-80 from the ReDLat study across six Latin American countries, we investigated the potential for SDOH to modify the association between PRS and susceptibility to AD and FTD.

Background: Dementia is a complex health condition that poses challenges not only to people living with dementia (PLWD) but to their families, the health system and society as a whole. Even though there is still no cure for dementia, different interventions are showing substantial contribution. mHealth-based assistive technology has shown the potential to provide efficient healthcare for PLWD and their caregivers in cognitive training, health and safety monitoring, educational support, and socialization.

Amerindian (AI) populations are substantially underrepresented in AD genetic studies. The Alzheimer's Disease Sequencing Project (ADSP), a global genetic initiative established by the National Institute of Aging (NIA) is supporting regional initiatives in Latin America and its admixed population. Latin America is the largest recently admixed population, with variable Native American, European, and African ancestry proportions, as result of successive settlements and new massive migrations.

Multi-species tests in bioassays offer a holistic view of the ecosystem's response to toxicity, as different species display varying sensitivities to pollutants. This research aimed to assess the ability of toxicity tests' to distinguish contamination levels, examine site-specific effects, and investigate seasonal variability. Using a multispecies approach (Nannochloropsis oceanica, Artemia franciscana, and Arbacia nigra), bioassays evaluated marine water quality from Callao Bay in Peru across four sampling areas (Naval School: PA1, Peruvian Marine Institute: PA2, Callao Pier: PA3, and San Lorenzo Island: PA4).
