Toward Green Liquid Nitrogen Fertilizer Synthesis: Plasma-Driven Nitrogen Oxidation and Partial Electrocatalytic Reduction.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Electrical Insulation and Power Equipment, Centre for Plasma Biomedicine, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, 710049, P. R. China.

Liquid fertilizers, particularly when integrated with precision irrigation systems, offer a more efficient and sustainable alternative to traditional solid nitrogen fertilizers. The industrial production of ammonium nitrate (NHNO) is environmentally detrimental due to its reliance on fossil fuels. This study introduces an innovative air-to-NOx-to-NHNO pathway for synthesizing liquid nitrogen fertilizer.

Background: This study reports a rare case of delayed spontaneous resolution of double anterior chambers (AC) resulting from non-rhegmatogenous Descemet membrane detachment (DMD) after deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK). Currently, management guidelines for this condition have not been established.

Case Presentation: A 65-year-old woman with lattice corneal dystrophy underwent uncomplicated DALK, during which an unrecognized type 2 big bubble was present.

Nanoscale insight into the interaction mechanism underlying the transport of microplastics by bubbles in aqueous environment.

J Colloid Interface Sci

December 2024

School of Minerals Processing and Bioengineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083, PR China. Electronic address:

The ecological risk of microplastics (MPs) is raising concern about their transport and fate in aquatic ecosystems. The capture of MPs by bubbles is a ubiquitous natural phenomenon in water-based environment, which plays a critical role in the global cycling of MPs, thereby increasing their environmental threats. However, the nanoscale interaction mechanisms between bubbles and MPs underlying MPs transport by bubbles in complex environmental systems remain elusive.

Coupling the thermal acoustic modes of a bubble to an optomechanical sensor.

Microsyst Nanoeng

December 2024

ECE Department, University of Alberta, 9211-116 St. NW, Edmonton, T6G 1H9, AB, Canada.

Optomechanical sensors provide a platform for probing acoustic/vibrational properties at the micro-scale. Here, we used cavity optomechanical sensors to interrogate the acoustic environment of adjacent air bubbles in water. We report experimental observations of the volume acoustic modes of these bubbles, including both the fundamental Minnaert breathing mode and a family of higher-order modes extending into the megahertz frequency range.
