The study of structure-activity relationships is a top priority in the development of nontraditional luminescent materials. In this work, nonconjugated polyurethanes (PUs) with full-color emission (red, green, and blue) are easily obtained by control of the diol monomer structure and the polymerization conditions. Selected diol monomers introduced single, double, or triple bond repeating units into the main chain of the PUs, in order to understand how unsaturated bonds and H-bonds affect their luminescence from a molecular orbital viewpoint.

Visible-Light-Fueled Polymerizations for 3D Printing.

Acc Chem Res

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, The University of Texas at Austin, 105 East 24th Street, Austin, Texas 78712, United States.

ConspectusLight-driven polymerizations and their application in 3D printing have revolutionized manufacturing across diverse sectors, from healthcare to fine arts. Despite the popularized notion that with 3D printing "imagination is the only limit", we and others in the scientific community have identified fundamental hurdles that restrict our capabilities in this space. Herein, we describe the group's efforts in developing photochemical systems that respond to nontraditional colors of light to elicit the rapid, spatiotemporally controlled formation of plastics.

Development of an FKBP12-recruiting chemical-induced proximity DNA-encoded library and its application to discover an autophagy potentiator.

Electronic address:

Chemical inducers of proximity (CIPs) are molecules that recruit one protein to another and introduce new functionalities toward modulating protein states and activities. While CIP-mediated recruitment of E3 ligases is widely exploited for the development of degraders, other therapeutic modalities remain underexplored. We describe a non-degrader CIP-DNA-encoded library (CIP-DEL) that recruits FKBP12 to target proteins using non-traditional acyclic structures, with an emphasis on introducing stereochemically diverse and rigid connectors to attach the combinatorial library.

Objective: Individuals from Black African and Black Caribbean communities (black communities) in the UK bear a disproportionate burden of HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), while exhibiting lower testing rates. The aim of the scoping review was to summarise interventions developed to increase HIV/STI testing among black communities in the UK and describe the facilitators and barriers that influence testing uptake in these populations, according to the Capability Opportunity Motivation Behaviour (COM-B) approach.

Methods: Six databases were systematically searched to identify quantitative, qualitative and mixed-method studies evaluating the effectiveness of HIV/STI testing interventions among black communities in the UK, published from 2000 onwards.

Development and application of decontamination methods for the re-use of laboratory grade plastic pipette tips.

PLoS One

December 2024

Division of Biology, Chemistry, and Materials Science, Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Silver Spring, MD, United States of America.

During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, a need for methods to decontaminate and reuse personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical plastics became a priority. In this investigation we aimed to develop a contamination evaluation protocol for laboratory pipette tips, after decontamination. Decontamination methods tested in this study included cleaning with a common laboratory detergent (2.
