Published: April 1999

We have constructed and tested a novel particle sizer that employs particle counting (the time-domain approach) rather than the ensemble-diffraction approach that currently dominates the market in atmospheric-dust particle sizers. The method does not depend on mechanical devices to restrict particles within the sampling volume but instead allows for optical isolation of the sampling volume. This technique is useful for atmospheric-dust measurements for which nonobtrusive measurement is often desirable.

The equivalent value (EV)-based workload assessment of primary healthcare workers in Beijing, China.

Hum Resour Health

January 2025

Health Development Research Department, Capital Institute of Pediatrics, Beijing, 100020, People's Republic of China.

Background: Quantitative methods for estimating the workload of primary healthcare (PHC) workers are essential for improving the performance of PHC institutions. However, measuring the workload of PHC workers is challenging due to the diverse and complex range of services covered by PHC. This study aims to use an equivalent value (EV)-based approach to assess the workload of PHC workers and inform policymakers about the current workload burden in Beijing, China.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the necessity of lymph node sampling for specific non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: Patients with small-size (≤2 cm) NSCLC who underwent surgical resection between 2009 and 2022 were retrospectively screened. The characteristics of patients with nodal metastasis were demonstrated.

Using XBGoost, an interpretable machine learning model, for diagnosing prostate cancer in patients with PSA < 20 ng/ml based on the PSAMR indicator.

Sci Rep

Department of Urology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical College, Yijishan Hospital, Wuhu, 241001, Anhui, People's Republic of China.

To create a diagnostic tool before biopsy for patients with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels < 20 ng/ml to minimize prostate biopsy-related discomfort and risks. Data from 655 patients who underwent transperineal prostate biopsy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical College from July 2021 to January 2023 were collected and analyzed. After applying the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling TEchnique class balancing on the training set, multiple machine learning models were constructed by using the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) feature selection to identify the significant variables.

Introduction: Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the gold standard surgical treatment to lower urinary tract symptoms and benign prostatic obstruction (LUTS/BPO). Although it has been proven to have substantial efficacy in improving functional outcomes, it has shown a high incidence of complications, including transurethral resection syndrome, massive bleeding, urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction. High-frequency irreversible electroporation (H-FIRE) is a novel non-thermal ablation technique that delivers pulsed high-voltage but low-energy electric current to the cell membrane, thereby leading to cell death.

A portable optical detection system for rapid quantification of two rheumatoid arthritis biomarkers.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

Department of Power Mechanical Engineering, National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan; Institute of NanoEngineering and Microsystems, National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes joint damage and progressive destruction of adjacent cartilage and bones. Quick and accurate detection of rheumatoid factors (RF) and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies (anti-CCP) in serum is effective in diagnosing RA and preventing its progression. However, current methods for detecting these two biomarkers are costly, time-consuming, labor-intensive, and require specialized equipment.
