The reaction of molybdates with multicarboxylic ligands resulted in the crystalline materials of [Na 8(Mo (VI) 10O 32EDTA)(H 2O) 35] n ( 1) and (NH 4) 8 n [Mo (VI) 10O 32PDTA] n (H 2O) 30 n ( 2) (EDTA = 1,2-diaminoethanetetraacetate; PDTA = 1,3-diaminopropanetetraacetate). In the two compounds, decamolybdate clusters are covalently linked by multicarboxylic ligands to form unusual meso-helical chains. For the first time, the synthesis of an organopolyoxometalate polymer is realized in aqueous media, which opens a green chemical approach to the fabrication of polyoxometalate-based polymers. The photochromic properties of 1 in the poly(vinyl alcohol) film displayed reddish-brown coloration upon UV irradiation, providing a new coloration material for photochromic films.

Two coordination polymers were rationally designed and successfully constructed using the rigid multicarboxylic acid ligand biphenyl-3,3',5,5'-tetracarboxylic acid (HBPTC) and rare earth metal ions (Eu and Ho) under solvothermal conditions. The compounds are poly[[tetra-μ-acetato-bis(μ-biphenyl-3,3',5,5'-tetracarboxylato)tetrakis(dimethylacetamide)tetraeuropium(III)] dimethylacetamide disolvate dihydrate], {[Eu(CHO)(CHO)(CHNO)]·2CHNO·2HO}, and poly[[tetra-μ-acetato-bis(μ-biphenyl-3,3',5,5'-tetracarboxylato)tetrakis(dimethylacetamide)tetraholmium(III)] pentahydrate], {[Ho(CHO)(CHO)(CHNO)]·5HO}, Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that both polymers possess a two-dimensional structure and they also display good thermal stability up to ca 280 °C and photoluminescence with an orange-red light emission.

Bacteria and their secreted extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) are widely distributed in ecosystems and have high capacity for heavy metal immobilization. The knowledge about the molecular-level interactions with heavy metal ions is essential for predicting the behavior of heavy metals in natural and engineering systems. This comprehensive study using potentiometric titration, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) was able to reveal the functional diversity and adsorption mechanisms for Pb onto bacteira and the EPS in greater detail than ever before.

A novel luminescent coordination polymer (CP) based on Zn(II) ions as nodes [Zn(OPY)(Hbtc)] (1), [Hbtc = trimesic acid and OPY = 4,4'-(oxybis(4,1-phenylene))dipyridine] has been prepared via the solvothermal assembly of a tripodal multicarboxylic acid ligand, a bis-pyridyl ligand with V-shape containing two diverse coordination patterns as well as Zn ion. The experiments of photoluminescence also reflect that the coordination polymer 1 has high sensitivity to potassium dichromate, and its quenching efficiency is K of 2.12 × 10 L·mol.

Four new metal-organic frameworks based on diverse secondary building units: sensing and magnetic properties.

January 2018

Key Laboratory of Synthetic and Natural Functional Molecule Chemistry of the Ministry of Education, Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Physico-Inorganic Chemistry, College of Chemistry & Materials Science, Northwest University, Xi'an 710127, P. R. China.

Four new metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), {[Zn(L)(OH)(HO)]·NMP·2HO} (1), {[HN(Me)][Zn(L)(HO)]·DMF·HO} (2), {[Co(L)(HO)]·2HO} (3) and {[Mn(L)(HO)]·6HO} (4), were assembled employing a symmetrical V-shaped rigid multicarboxylic acid ligand HL (HL = 2,4-di(3',5'-dicarboxylphenyl)benzoic acid) with different metal ions, resulting in versatile frameworks as well as various types of coordination modes of HL. 1 forms a three-dimensional (3D) 4-connected sra net based on trinuclear [Zn(μ-OH)(μ-COO)(μ-COO)] clusters, while 2 displays a 3D (4,6)-connected net based on two types of binuclear [Zn(μ-COO)(μ-COO)] and [Zn(μ-COO)] clusters. 3 and 4 contain similar [M(μ-COO)(μ-COO)] (3, M = Co; 4, M = Mn) clusters but result in different 4-connected 3D and 2D frameworks, respectively.
