Objective: To examine the expression of gremlin-1 (GREM1) on the levels of messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein in eutopic endometrium and its serum level in patients with endometriosis.

Design: Prospective, experimental study using reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction, Western blot, immunofluorescence, and ELISA.

Setting: Gynecological oncology laboratory in a department of obstetrics and gynecology in a medical college in China.

Patient(s): Thirty-five patients with endometriosis and 23 healthy control women.

Intervention(s): During surgery, the eutopic endometria and peripheral serum were obtained from the patients with endometriosis and the control women.

Main Outcome Measure(s): The cellular compartment location of GREM1 expression was examined by using immunofluorescent double staining. The expression levels of mRNA and protein for GREM1 were determined by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction and Western blot, respectively. The serum level of GREM1 was measured by indirect ELISA.

Result(s): The expression of GREM1 was defined within endometrial blood vessel endothelium exclusively, with the concomitant expressions of GREM1 and CD146. The expression of GREM1 on the levels of mRNA and protein was significantly higher in eutopic endometria of patients with endometriosis than in those from healthy control women. According to the ELISA established in our laboratory, the concentration of GREM1 in peripheral serum that was collected during the follicular menstrual phase of patients with endometriosis was significantly higher than that in serum from healthy control women.

Conclusion(s): Gremlin-1 plays a role to some extent in the aberrant angiogenesis of eutopic endometrium in patients with endometriosis. It is possible that the peripheral serum level of GREM1 is a prospective serum biomarker of endometriosis.

Objective: To investigate the factors influencing recurrence following laparoscopic conservative surgery in patients with ovarian endometriosis (OEM) and to develop a predictive model.

Methods: In this retrospective study, the clinical data from 212 OEM patients who underwent laparoscopic conservative surgery at Suzhou Ninth People's Hospital from May 2013 to December 2021 were meticulously reviewed. According to disease recurrence over a 2-year follow-up period, the patients were divided into a recurrence group and a non-recurrence group.

Objective: The present study was designed to comprehensively analyze the expression profiles of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α), estrogen-related receptor-α (ERRα), estrogen receptor-β (ERβ), interleukin-6 (IL-6), cysteinyl-aspartic acid-specific protease-3 (caspase-3), and cysteinyl-aspartic acid-specific protease-9 (caspase-9) in endometriosis tissues. It also aimed to elucidate the hitherto unclarified role of PGC-1α in the processes of proliferation, apoptosis, and gene expression regulation of human endometrial stromal cells, thereby providing novel insights and identifying potential molecular targets for advancing endometriosis treatment modalities.

Methods: A total of 49 ectopic endometrial tissue samples and 50 normal endometrial tissue samples were meticulously collected from patients who underwent gynecological surgeries in the People's Hospital Affiliated to Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Fuzhou, China, between January 2022 and January 2023.

Both chronic endometritis and endometriosis are common entities in infertile patients. The association and the co-existence of these two entities are poorly evaluated. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine the association between chronic endometritis and endometriosis and to find the prevalence of chronic endometritis in women with endometriosis.

Purpose: Abdominal wall endometriosis consists of endometrial tissue between the peritoneum and the abdominal wall. The established treatment involves amenorrheic drugs-not always successful and tolerated-or invasive surgery. In this scenario, minimally invasive techniques such as cryoablation are a potential option.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Immunohistochemical analysis (IHC) revealed markedly elevated expression of IL6ST in endometrial tissue of patients with ovarian endometriosis. Level of methylation of IL6ST is diminished in patients with endometriosis, whereas level of mRNA expression is markedly elevated by RT-PCR.
