Objective: To assess role of systolic hypertension during pregnancy in long-term mortality.

Method: A total of 4,090 Finnish women who delivered in the period from 1954 to 1963 were followed up for an average of 44 years. Mortality data were obtained from the Finnish cause-of-death registry. Cox-proportional hazard models were used for analysis.

Results: Cardiovascular mortality was significantly higher among women with systolic hypertension in early or late pregnancy. Women with systolic hypertension in early pregnancy without proteinuria had a significantly increased risk for cardiovascular death. Primiparas with systolic hypertension and proteinuria had a higher risk for cardiovascular death.

Conclusion: By considering women with systolic hypertension in pregnancy as being at higher risk for cardiovascular diseases, there may be an opportunity to prevent untimely mortality.

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death globally, and many humanitarian crises occur in countries with high NCD burdens. Peer support is a promising approach to improve NCD care in these settings. However, evidence on peer support for people living with NCDs in humanitarian settings is limited.

Background: Guidelines recognized dual combination in initial antihypertensive therapy. Studies found that low-dose quadruple combination were superior to monotherapy. However, whether low-dose quadruple therapy is better than dual combination is unknown.

Purpose: Observational studies have suggested negative associations between maternal 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) status and risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy [pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) and preeclampsia (PET)]. Data from intervention studies are limited. We hypothesised that vitamin D supplementation would lower maternal blood pressure (BP) during pregnancy and reduce the incidence of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Hypertension Center of People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Hypertension Institute, NHC Key Laboratory of Hypertension Clinical Research, Key Laboratory of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Hypertension Research Laboratory, Xinjiang Clinical Medical Research Center for Hypertension (Cardio-Cerebrovascular) Diseases, Urumqi, China.

Purpose: Limited studies have examined the relationship between plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) and arterial stiffness progression. This study aimed to investigate the longitudinal association between baseline PAC and arterial stiffness progression in hypertensive patients.

Patients And Methods: This was a longitudinal study conducted at the Hypertension Center of People's Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region between April 2020 and October 2023.

The influence of microplastics on hypertension-associated cardiovascular injury via the modulation of gut microbiota.

Environ Pollut

January 2025

Heart Center and Beijing Key Laboratory of Hypertension, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China; Department of Cardiology, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Microplastics (MPs) have been found to interfere with the gut microbiota and compromise the integrity of the gut barrier. Excessive exposure to MPs markedly elevates the risk of cardiovascular disease, yet their influence on hypertension remains elusive, calling for investigation into their potential impacts on blood pressure (BP) regulation. In the present study, an increase in the concentration of MPs was observed in the fecal samples of individuals suffering from hypertension, as compared to the controls.
