Purpose: To evaluate the levels of serum alpha 1-antitrypsin in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX) and healthy control subjects without PEX.
Material And Methods: Forty-four patient with PEX and 40 healthy control subjects (84 subjects total) were enrolled into the study. Serum ATT levels were measured using nephelometry.
Results: The mean serum AAT concentration in PEX group was significantly higher than in the controls (p=0.0001).
Conclusion: Serum AAT levels were found to be increased in patients with PEX. Increased serum AAT levels in PEX may explain the role of inflammation in this group of patients.

Unlabelled: is a protozoan parasite that causes human and animal African trypanosomiases (HAT and AAT). Cardiac symptoms are commonly reported in HAT patients, and intracardiac parasites with accompanying myocarditis have been observed in both natural hosts and animal models of infection. Despite the importance of as a cause of cardiac dysfunction and the dramatic socioeconomic impact of African trypanosomiases in sub-Saharan Africa, there are currently no reproducible murine models of associated cardiomyopathy.

Background: Androgen deprivation is associated with erectile dysfunction (ED). In different animal models, sulfur dioxide (SO) donors NaSO and NaHSO reduced oxidative stress, fibrosis, and inflammation which contribute to the pathogenesis of androgen deprivation-induced ED, however the effect of SO donors on ED in castrated rats were not known.
Objective: To investigate the therapeutic effect of SO donors, NaSO/NaHSO, on ED in castrated rat model.

Obesity and type 2 diabetes are prevalent chronic diseases effectively managed by semaglutide. Here we studied the effects of semaglutide on the circulating proteome using baseline and end-of-treatment serum samples from two phase 3 trials in participants with overweight or obesity, with or without diabetes: STEP 1 (n = 1,311) and STEP 2 (n = 645). We identified evidence supporting broad effects of semaglutide, implicating processes related to body weight regulation, glycemic control, lipid metabolism and inflammatory pathways.

Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD) is an inherited condition characterized by reduced plasma levels of alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT), often leading to pulmonary diseases primarily emphysema and/or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but also bronchiectasis, bronchial asthma, or other less common disorders. Early diagnosis enables AAT augmentation therapy, which has proven to be effective in slowing down functional decline and improving survival rates. This article presents two cases of pregnant women with rare allelic variants of AATD who received AAT augmentation therapy, exploring the limited evidence on its safety during pregnancy and the potential role of decreased serum AAT levels in pregnancy-related complications.

Introduction: Knowledge and systematic evaluation of analytical errors is the task of internal analytical quality control management. The aim of this study was to assess whether the Westgard rules proposed by Bio-Rad's Westgard Advisor software are more efficient in the monitoring of analytical performance than those previously in use.
Materials And Methods: The study was carried out on the nephelometer Atellica NEPH630 (Siemens Healthineers, Erlangen, Germany).
