The present study examined the prevalence of self-injury and its association with substance abuse in 2974 junior and senior high-school students, by self-reporting questionnaires. Consequently, 9.9% of students (boys, 7.5%; girls, 12.1%) reported an experience of self-injury at least once. Significant differences were found in substance use-related problems including alcohol abuse, smoking, and illicit drug use (P < 0.001) between students with and without an experience of self-injury. The results also suggest that self-injuring students may more easily gain access to illicit drugs even if they had not yet experienced the use of illicit drugs. Self-injury in adolescence may be associated with substance use and is considered to be a risk factor predicting future illicit drug use.

Advanced life support certification has traditionally been the gold standard of resuscitation training for doctors and has been shown to improve outcomes from cardiac arrest. In 2021, Health Education England removed named courses from mandatory Foundational Programme competencies, which has resulted in capping of reimbursement and reduced access to courses. This represents a drop in educational standards which is particularly concerning when the medical school curriculum has been shown to deliver inconsistent, poor-quality resuscitation training.

Literature regarding osteochondral lesions in patients following elbow dislocation is scarce. The aim of this study was to examine osteochondral lesions on MRI in patients following simple elbow dislocations and evaluate inter-rater reliability between radiologists and orthopedic surgeons at different levels of experience. In this retrospective, single-center study, 72 MRIs of patients following simple elbow dislocations were evaluated.

The gut and the gut microbiome communicate with the nervous system through the gut-brain axis via neuroimmune and neuroendocrine mechanisms. Despite existing research, studies exploring this link in aging dogs are limited. This study aims to examine multiple blood and fecal biomarkers of intestinal health, along with various behavioral indicators based on saliva, blood, observations, and activity, in different age populations (junior: <2 y.

Objective: To evaluate the wound healing of recipient and donor sites following keratinized mucosa augmentation (KMA) around implants in reconstructed jaw areas and to compare these outcomes with gingival grafts in native jawbone, so as to provide clinical guidance for postoperative maintenance, and to investigate the impact of clinical experience on the evaluation of KMA postoperative healing through subgroup comparisons.
Methods: This study included patients who underwent resection of maxillofacial tumors, fibular or iliac flap reconstruction, and implant placement at Peking University Dental Hospital from October 2020 to April 2023. Three months post-implant placement, the patients were referred for KMA procedures.

Purpose: To evaluate the identification of nasal bone fractures and their clinical diagnostic significance for three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of maxillofacial computed tomography (CT) images by applying artificial intelligence (AI) with deep learning (DL).
Methods: CT maxillofacial 3D reconstruction images of 39 patients with normal nasal bone and 43 patients with nasal bone fracture were retrospectively analysed, and a total of 247 images were obtained in three directions: the orthostatic, left lateral and right lateral positions. The CT scan images of all patients were reviewed by two senior specialists to confirm the presence or absence of nasal fractures.
