Global emissions of polychlorinated naphthalenes from 1912 to 2050.

Nat Commun

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 100085, China.

Polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs) are persistent organic compounds that are regulated by the Stockholm Convention. Here, we estimate historical emissions from PCN production and use (1912-1987) and unintentional emissions from 20 categories (2000-2020). A random forest regression model projects emissions for 2020-2050.

Although CCL17 has been reported to exert a vital role in many cancers, the related studies in the thyroid carcinoma have never reported. As a chemokine, CCL17 plays a positive role by promoting the infiltration of immune cells into the tumor microenviroment (TME) to influence tumor invasion and metastasis. Therefore, this study is aimed to investigate the association of CCL17 level with potential prognostic value on tumor immunity in the thyroid carcinoma (THCA) based on the bioinformatics analysis.

Quantifying the regulatory potential of genetic variants via a hybrid sequence-oriented model with SVEN.

Nat Commun

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Protein and Plant Gene Research, School of Life Sciences, Biomedical Pioneering Innovative Center (BIOPIC) and Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Genomics (ICG), Center for Bioinformatics (CBI), Peking University, 100871, Beijing, China.

Deciphering how noncoding DNA determines gene expression is critical for decoding the functional genome. Understanding the transcription effects of noncoding genetic variants are still major unsolved problems, which is critical for downstream applications in human genetics and precision medicine. Here, we integrate regulatory-specific neural networks and tissue-specific gradient-boosting trees to build SVEN: a hybrid sequence-oriented architecture that can accurately predict tissue-specific gene expression level and quantify the tissue-specific transcriptomic impacts of structural variants across more than 350 tissues and cell lines.

Spin-polarized lasing in manganese doped perovskite microcrystals.

Nat Commun

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Photochemistry, Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China.

Spin-polarized lasers have demonstrated many superiorities over conventional lasers in both performance and functionalities. Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites are emerging spintronic materials with great potential for advancing spin-polarized laser technology. However, the rapid carrier spin relaxation process in hybrid perovskites presents a major bottleneck for spin-polarized lasing.

Concurrent Pressure-Induced Superconductivity and Photoconductivity Transitions in PbSeTe.

Adv Mater

December 2024

Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies and Department of Physics, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, 518055, P. R. China.

Concurrent superconductivity and negative photoconductivity (NPC) are rarely observed. Here, the discovery in PbSeTe of superconductivity and photoconductivity transitions between positive photoconductivity (PPC) and NPC during compression is reported to ≈40 GPa and subsequent decompression, which are also accompanied by reversible structure transitions (3D Fm m ⇌ 2D Pnma ⇌ 3D Pm m). Superconductivity with a maximum T of ≈6.
