Atrial fibrillation (AF) was largely ignored by cardiac electrophysiologists until it was first suggested in 1998 that it might be amenable to catheter ablation. In the 25 years since then, a vast body of knowledge has emerged, initially reporting the "hypes and hopes" that ablation was appropriate for all but more recently acknowledging that not all patients benefit from this approach. The AF "epidemic" and more holistic understanding of the complex contributors to its development question whether it is even meaningful to consider AF a single condition that is always responsive to ablation management.

In most mammals, new neurons are not only produced during embryogenesis but also after birth. Soon after adult neurogenesis was discovered, the influence of recruiting new neurons on cognitive functions, especially on memory, was documented. Likewise, the late process of neuronal production also contributes to affective functions, but this outcome was recognized with more difficulty.

Some narratives present biodegradable plastic use for soil mulching practices in agriculture as "environmentally friendly" and "sustainable" alternatives to conventional plastics. To verify these narratives, environmental research recently started focusing on their potential impact on soil health, highlighting some concerns. The paper by Degli-Innocenti criticizes this unfolding knowledge arguing that it is affected by communication hypes, alarmistic writing and a focus on exposure scenarios purposedly crafted to yield negative effects.
