We report a case of a mucin-producing adenocarcinoma in an urachal lesion. Other histological subtypes of this rare condition are mentioned. Treatment modalities for adenocarcinomas in an urachal lesion include en bloc total or partial cystectomy with excision of the urachus and umbilectomy or local resection with surveillance in highly selected cases. We discuss the reported results from these treatment modalities.

This study describes a novel surgical method to remove urinary bladder-related urachal abscesses in a cow. Traditional methods, such as the midline or paramedian approach in calves and the preinguinal approach, can be challenging in adult cattle, especially for lesions situated near the pelvic cavity. In this case, a 4-year-old cow had a urachal abscess attached to the bladder apex, making it difficult to approach via abdominal wall incision.

Urachal adenocarcinoma is an unusual and aggressive form of bladder cancer that arises from urachus, a midline fibrous remnant of allantois. Experience with diagnosing them is limited and differentiating urachal adenocarcinoma from other urachal pathologies like infected urachal cysts may be difficult at times. Differentials of urachal anomalies can be narrowed down by proper assessment of patient demographics, clinical details, lesion morphology, and imaging findings.
