Oncocytic change involves a cytoplasmic enlargement due to mitochondrial accumulation observed in a wide variety of conditions and in multiple organs. It can be reactive or neoplastic. In the thyroid gland, this change is a metaplastic phenomenon that takes place under different circumstances that promote cellular stress, and could even produce a true neoplasm, both benign or malignant. The oncocytic adenoma, a malignant tumor will be described. We analyzed four cases studied at the surgical pathology department of the American British Cowdray Medical Center in Mexico City that displayed unusual cytomorphological features. They became a diagnostic challenge and in order to solve it we reviewed their morphological spectrum. Tumor characteristics in all cases included: massive ischemic necrosis short after a fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed, unexpected large size, coexistence with a malignant independent neoplasm and cytological features similar to those observed in papillary carcinomas. It is of utmost importance for the pathologist to acknowledge the existence of these features in order to avoid diagnostic mistakes that could lead to unsuccessful treatment.

Background And Aims: Follicular-patterned thyroid tumors (FPTTs) are frequently encountered in thyroid pathology, encompassing follicular adenoma (FA), follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC), noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasm with papillary-like nuclear features (NIFTP), and follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (fvPTC). Recently, a distinct entity termed differentiated high-grade thyroid carcinoma has been described by the 5th edition of the WHO classification of the thyroid tumors, categorized as either high-grade fvPTC, high-grade FTC or high-grade oncocytic carcinoma of the thyroid (OCA). Accurate differentiation among these lesions, particular between the benign (FA), borderline (NIFTP) and malignant neoplasms (FTC and fvPTC), remains a challenge in both histopathological and cytological diagnoses.

Oncocytic carcinoma is a rare malignant neoplasm of oncocytic cells, such cells being characterized by abundant granular eosinophilic cytoplasm, invasive growth, and pronounced cellular pleomorphism. It may arise de novo, or through malignant transformation of a pre-existing benign oncocytoma. Oncocytic carcinoma most commonly occurs in the salivary glands, with rare involvement of the ocular adnexa where it mainly affects caruncle, conjunctiva, and lacrimal sac, and only very arises in the lacrimal gland.

RO and ChRCC are kidney tumours with overlapping characteristics, making differentiation between them challenging. The objective of this research is to create a radiogenomics map by correlating radiomic features to molecular phenotypes in ChRCC and RO, using resection as the gold standard. Purpose: BSND is a chloride channel subunit that is expressed in the normal salivary gland. We aimed to validate the utility of BSND immunohistochemistry in the differential diagnosis of oncocytic salivary gland neoplasms.
Methods: BSND immunohistochemistry was performed in a retrospective cohort of 93 salivary gland lesions, enriched with tumors with oncocytic features and histologic variants of mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC).
