  • Melasma is a common, chronic skin condition that mainly affects women, presenting as dark patches on the face and is often perceived as a serious cosmetic issue.
  • A survey conducted among 199 dermatologists in Turkiye revealed that the majority of patients with melasma are females between the ages of 30 to 40, with mixed melasma being the most common type.
  • The study found that topical treatments, particularly Kligman's formula, are most frequently used, while oral treatments like tranexamic acid are less common, and there's a significant recurrence rate of 41%-60%, suggesting the need for better management strategies.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of picosecond KTP in reducing peri-ocular dark circles caused mainly by excessive pigmentation and to compare Picosecond KTP with Thulium laser ability in reducing the intensity and extent of peri-ocular dark circles.

Materials And Methods: This split-face prospective study included twelve women with periorbital dark circles (pigmented or mixed-pigmented type). The left lower eyelid was treated using the PicoHi machine (HIRONIC Ltd), a full beam Q-switched Nd-YAG provided by KTP crystal (523 nm) at settings of 0.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of three different treatments for macular amyloidosis: 15% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel, 35% glycolic acid (GA) peel, and Q-switched Nd-YAG Laser over a course of 6 sessions.
  • A total of 75 patients participated, with TCA peels showing the greatest improvement in skin color, subjective ratings, and global assessments compared to the other two methods.
  • Although TCA peels had more adverse effects, they were still deemed the most effective and cost-efficient treatment option without any lasting side effects for patients.
