In this paper, a three-dimensional precise conformal radiotherapy treatment planning system based on a cobalt-60 teletherapy unit is introduced. With the help of additional precise target localization and conformal field-shaping devices, the TPS can greatly improve the performance of conventional cobalt-60 teletherapy units in precise target localization, radiotherapy planning and dose delivery. The clinical practices show that the TPS has advantages of reliable precision and an affordable price , and it is urgently needed in our country.

Although many patients who receive definitive radiotherapy (RT) for localised prostate cancer (CaP) experience long-term disease-free survival and better quality of life, some also have biochemical progression during follow-up. Oftentimes this implies additional treatment for patients with the accompanying challenges of cumulative treatment side effects, inconvenience and financial toxicity. This study retrospectively assessed the clinicopathological characteristics and biochemical outcomes of patients treated for localised CaP with external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) between 2015 and 2020 at a major cancer treatment centre in Accra, Ghana.

The inequitable access to radiotherapy globally is a complex undertaking that will require sustained work identifying gaps and mobilising efforts to resolve. The purpose of this review is to identify gaps and needs in radiotherapy in Latin America and the Caribbean. Data from 41 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean on teletherapy megavoltage units and brachytherapy resources were extracted from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Directory of Radiotherapy Centers.

Purpose: In vivo dosimetry is a quality assurance tool that provides post-treatment measurement of the absorbed dose as delivered to the patient. This dosimetry compares the prescribed and measured dose delivered to the target volume. In this study, a tissue-equivalent water phantom provided the simulation of the human environment.

Objective: Radiation-induced heart disease (RIHD) is a common sequela of thoracic irradiation. At the same time, nerve remodeling is involved in the progression of heart disease. However, the activation of the nerve remodeling related genes in radiation-induced heart disease is still lacking.

Background: In developing countries like India, cobalt-60 machines still find their applicability, considering the cost and maintenance issues. With a view to deliver conformal treatment plans using teletherapy machines, an automated Multi-Leaf Collimator (MLC) was developed for the existing machines as a retrofit attachment to the collimator assembly without any modifications to the unit.
Objective: This study aims to investigate the radiation characteristics of leaf designs incorporated in two add-on prototype MLC systems with respect to the shape of leaf projected at the isocenter plane and the isodose distribution around the target.
