Fine social discrimination of siblings in mice: Implications for early detection of Alzheimer's disease.

Centre de Recherches sur la Cognition Animale, Centre de Biologie Intégrative, Université de Toulouse, CNRS, UPS, 31062, France. Electronic address:

The ability to distinguish between individuals is crucial for social species and supports behaviors such as reproduction, hierarchy formation, and cooperation. In rodents, social discrimination relies on memory and the recognition of individual-specific cues, known as "individual signatures". While olfactory signals are central, other sensory cues - such as auditory, visual, and tactile inputs - also play a role.

This study delves into how various musical factors influence the experience of auditory illusions, building on Diana Deutsch's scale illusion experiments and subsequent studies. Exploring the interaction between scale mode and timbre, this study assesses their influence on auditory misperceptions, while also considering the impact of an individual's musical training and ability to discern absolute pitch. Participants were divided into nonmusicians, musicians with absolute pitch, and musicians with relative pitch, and were exposed to stimuli modified across three scale modes (tonal, dissonant, atonal) and two timbres (same, different).

miR-145b/AP2B1 Axis Contributes to Noise-induced Sensorineural Hearing Loss In a Male Mouse Model.

Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, The Central Hospital of Wuhan, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430000, China.

Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) is an increasingly prevalent sensory disorder, but the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Adaptor related protein complex 2 subunit beta 1 (AP2B1) has been indicated to be detectable in mature cochleae. Nonetheless, it is unclear whether AP2B1 is implicated in the progression of SNHL.

Behavioral and Electrophysiological Assessment of Central Auditory Processing in Individuals with Sickle Cell Disease.

Pediatr Blood Cancer

January 2025

Department of Audiology and Speech Therapy, Universidade Federal de São Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Introduction: Sickle cell anemia has a genetic origin characterized by an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern. The nervous system may be subject to vaso-occlusion and, consequently, affect the proper functioning of the central portion of hearing.

Objective: To assess central auditory skills and analyze short- and long-latency auditory evoked potentials in children with sickle cell disease.
