We report experimental verification of an extended depth of focus (EDF) system with near-diffraction-limited performance capabilities. Dowski and Cathey [Appl. Opt. 34, 1859-1866 (1995)] described the theory of this system in detail. We can create an EDF system by modifying a standard incoherent optical system with a special cubic phase plate placed at the aperture stop. We briefly review the theory and present the first optical experimental verification of this EDF system. The phase plate codes the wave front, producing a modified optical transfer function. Once the image is transformed into digital form, a signal-processing step decodes the image and produces the final in-focus image. We have produced a number of images from various optical systems using the phase plate, thus demonstrating the success of this EDF system.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have transformed cancer treatment but are frequently associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs). This article offers a novel synthesis of findings from both preclinical and clinical studies, focusing on the molecular mechanisms driving irAEs across diverse organ systems. It examines key immune cells, such as T cell subsets and myeloid cells, which are instrumental in irAE pathogenesis, alongside an in-depth analysis of cytokine signaling [interleukin (IL)-6, IL-17, IL-4), interferon γ (IFN-γ), IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α)], integrin-mediated interactions [integrin subunits αITGA)4 and ITGB7], and microbiome-related factors that contribute to irAE pathology.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the role of extracellular death factor (EDF) derived from Escherichia coli in the induction of programmed cell death (PCD) in methicillin-resistant and -susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA and MSSA). The confirmation of bacterial strains as well as the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test were performed according to CLSI, 2022. The extraction and efficacy determination of EDF as well as the CFU assessment were done.

In this paper, high Er concentration erbium doped fiber (EDF) and erbium-ytterbium co-doped fiber (EYDF) were fabricated for the seed and master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) system of the single-frequency fiber laser. An in-band pumping source with the wavelength of 1535 nm was proposed to improve the efficiency in the ring-cavity. A slope efficiency of 23.

In this paper, an integrated few-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier (FM-EDFA), with high gain, low differential modal gain (DMG), and low gain flatness for multi-wavelength amplification, is constructed using homemade weakly-coupled ring-core few-mode erbium-doped fiber (FM-EDF) and low insertion-loss passive components. The gain characteristics of the FM-EDFA for multi-wavelength amplification are analyzed in detail and compared with single-wavelength amplification. The experimental results demonstrate that, although multi-wavelength amplification in different modes has an impact on the gain characteristics, through simple LP core pumping only, all guided modes can achieve a gain higher than 22.
