  • This study expands on the dynamical threshold neuron model with delay, originally developed by Gopalsamy and Leung, by analyzing its behavior under various parameters.
  • The research identifies areas where delays have minimal impact ("harmless" delays) and those where delays lead to significant oscillations in the system.
  • This comprehensive analysis enhances the understanding of how delays affect neuron dynamics beyond just asymptotic behavior.

Article Abstract

We complement the study of the asymptotic behaviour of the dynamical threshold neuron model with delay, introduced by Gopalsamy and Leung, by providing a description of the dynamics of the system in the remaining parameters range. We characterize the regions of "harmless" delays and those in which delay-induced oscillations appear.

Gaussia Luciferase (GLuc) is a renowned reporter protein that can catalyze the oxidation of coelenterazine (CTZ) and emit a bright light signal. GLuc comprises two consecutive repeats that form the enzyme body and a central putative catalytic cavity. However, deleting the C-terminal repeat only limited reduces the activity (over 30% residual luminescence intensity detectable), despite being a key part of the cavity.

Rationale & Objective: Engaging patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) in goals of care (GOC) conversations is essential to align life-sustaining treatments with patient preferences. This pilot study described the feasibility of engaging older Veterans with advanced CKD in GOC conversations via telehealth by (1) comparing patient characteristics, including life-sustaining treatment note completion rates and preferences by visit modality, and (2) exploring Veteran and clinician perspectives surrounding telehealth GOC conversations.

Study Design: Mixed-method convergent design including a prospective, quantitative observational cohort analysis (n = 40) and qualitative, semi-structured interviews with 4 clinicians and 11 Veterans.

Model estimation for SEM analyses in commonly used software typically involves iterative optimization procedures, which can lead to nonconvergence issues. In this paper, we propose using random starting values as an alternative to the current default strategies. By drawing from uniform distributions within data-driven lower and upper bounds (see De Jonckere et al.

Although there are guidance tables in the literature on surgical dosage for primary medial rectus resection-lateral rectus recession surgery, there is a lack of consensus on the surgical gains in medial rectus re-advancement (MRR) for the management of consecutive exotropia. We compared the surgical outcomes of primary medial rectus resection-lateral recession (RR) surgery, to MRR in patients with consecutive exotropia. Retrospective, electronic note review of consecutive patients undergoing primary RR surgery for basic exotropia (RR group), convergence insufficiency-type exotropia, and divergence excess, and consecutive patients undergoing MRR with or without lateral rectus recession (MRR group) for consecutive exotropia in a teaching university hospital.
