Heavy eye syndrome (HES) is an atypical form of strabismus, primarily caused by a significant elongation of the axial length of the eye, which leads to a disruption of normal topographic relationships between the posterior pole and the extraocular muscles. Clinical symptoms of HES include late-onset convergent strabismus (esotropia) with a vertical component and restricted ocular motility in the context of substantial eye enlargement associated with high myopia. Identification of the pathognomonic sign (dislocation of the posterior pole from the muscle cone) requires the use of multislice computed tomography (MSCT) of the orbits.

Background: Multiligament knee injuries (MLKIs) are complex and heterogeneous, often associated with concomitant injuries, and necessitates precise treatment strategies.

Preoperative Management: Effective preoperative management in MLKIs requires comprehensive evaluation, starting with a detailed patient history to identify the mechanisms of injury and prior treatments. Physical examination assesses for knee stability, while imaging techniques including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and radiographs detail ligament, cartilage, and meniscal injuries to identify all injured structures.

Article Synopsis
  • Engineering electronic band structures through doping is essential for enhancing thermoelectric performance in materials.
  • The study reveals that the Sn-s states in SnTe significantly impact the density of states at the valence band's top, influencing band structure tuning.
  • A design approach is presented, identifying Al as an effective dopant that, combined with Sb and AgBiTe, leads to a record high average ZT of 1.15 across a temperature range of 300 to 873 K.

We present a case of a man in his 40s with a proximal tibiofibular joint dislocation, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear and posterolateral corner (PLC) injury sustained after a cycling accident. Physical examination and MRI confirmed the diagnosis. He was treated with reconstruction of the ACL, PLC and proximal tibiofibular joint.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a neurodegenerative disorder that has critical impact on patient's life expectance and life span, and this disorder also leads to negative socioeconomic features. SCI is defined as a firm collision to the spinal cord which leads to the fracture and the dislocation of vertebrae. The current available treatment is surgery.
