Effects of aluminum on metabolism of reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species in root tips of different Eucalyptus species.

BMC Plant Biol

January 2025

Guangxi Colleges and Universities Key Laboratory for Cultivation and Utilization of Subtropical Forest Plantation, Guangxi Key Laboratory of Forest Ecology and Conservation, College of Forestry, Guangxi University, Nanning, 530004, China.

On acidified soil, the growth of Eucalyptus is seriously restricted by aluminum (Al) stress. Therefore, breeding Eucalyptus species with excellent Al tolerance, developing the genetic potential of species, and improving tolerance to Al stress are important for the sustainable development of artificial Eucalyptus forests. By observing the occurrence and distribution of the main reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) in root tips of Eucalyptus seedlings under Al stress, this study analyzed change in the growth and physiological indexes of Eucalyptus seedlings under Al stress.

Dietary Compounds in the Prevention of Arsenic Induced Intestinal Toxicity .

J Med Food

January 2025

Instituto de Agroquímica y Tecnología de Alimentos (IATA-CSIC), Paterna (Valencia), Spain.

Recent studies show that inorganic arsenic (As) exerts a toxic effect on the intestinal epithelium, causing a significant increase in its permeability. This disruption of the epithelial barrier may favor the entry of contaminants or toxins into the systemic circulation, thus causing toxicity not only at the intestinal level but possibly also at the systemic level. The present study conducts an evaluation of the protective effect of various dietary supplements and plant extracts against the intestinal toxicity of inorganic As.

Dung predicts the global distribution of herbivore grazing pressure in drylands.

Nat Food

January 2025

Laboratorio de Biodiversidad y Funcionamiento Ecosistémico, Instituto de Recursos Naturales y Agrobiología de Sevilla (IRNAS), CSIC, Sevilla, Spain.

Dryland grazing sustains millions of people worldwide but, when poorly managed, threatens food security. Here we combine livestock and wild herbivore dung mass data from surveys at 760 dryland sites worldwide, representing independent measurements of herbivory, to generate high-resolution maps. We show that livestock and wild herbivore grazing is globally disconnected, and identify hotspots of herbivore activity across Africa, the Eurasian grasslands, India, Australia and the United States.

Soil nutrients and meteorological conditions are pivotal environmental factors influencing plant growth and development. This study systematically analyzes how soil nutrients and meteorological factors influence the phenotypic growth and seed production of wild Elymus nutans in Tibet. These environmental factors are critical ecological determinants, and this research seeks to unveil the complex and diverse ecological adaptation mechanisms of the species.

Food web architecture and trophic interactions between organisms can be studied using ratios of naturally occurring stable isotopes of carbon (C/C) and nitrogen (N/N). Most studies, however, focused on free-living organisms, but recently, there has been growing interest in understanding trophic interactions of parasites. The crustacean ectoparasite is a well-studied parasite of freshwater teleost fish, which has low host specificity and a cosmopolitan distribution.
