A liquid chromatography method was developed for the determination of some frequently prescribed selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRI) - citalopram and fluoxetine - and its main metabolites - demethylcitalopram, didemethylcitalopram and norfluoxetine - in human urine samples, using a previous stage of solid-phase microextraction. All the extraction parameters influencing adsorption (extraction time, temperature, pH, ion strength and organic modifier addition) and desorption (desorption time and desorption solvent mixture composition) of the analytes on the fiber have been studied. A satisfactory reproducibility for extraction from urine samples (R.S.D.<10%) was obtained. The linearity for urine ranged from 0.05 to 2 mg l(-1) with limits of detection close to 0.01 mg l(-1), which cover the typical urinary concentrations obtained for citalopram, fluoxetine and their metabolites.

Background: Idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (NS) is the most prevalent glomerular disease in children. Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) is synthesized in response to diverse stress factors like infections and oxidative stress. We aimed to evaluate serum and urine levels of HSP70 in children with steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS) and to assess changes in HSP70 levels with prednisolone treatment.

The urea oxidation reaction (UOR) is characterized by a lower overpotential compared to the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) during electrolysis, which facilitates the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) at the cathode. Charge distribution, which can be modulated by the introduction of a heterostructure, plays a key role in enhancing the adsorption and cleavage of chemical groups within urea molecules. Herein, a facile all-room temperature synthesis of functional heterojunction NiCoS/CoMoS grown on carbon cloth (CC) is presented, and the as-prepared electrode served as a catalyst for simultaneous hydrogen evolution and urea oxidation reaction.

Objective: Early and accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer (PC) is crucial for effective treatment. Diagnosing clinically insignificant cancers can lead to overdiagnosis and overtreatment, highlighting the importance of accurately selecting patients for further evaluation based on improved risk prediction tools. Novel biomarkers offer promise for enhancing this diagnostic process.

This study evaluates the impact of acute pyelonephritis in pregnant women on the in vivo activity of renal OAT3 using the endogenous biomarker (EB) 6β-hydroxycortisol (6β-OHF) renal clearance (CL 6β-OHF) and AUC validated by correlating with the secretion clearance (CL) of the probe drug furosemide. Additionally, 6β-OHF formation clearance (CL 6β-OHF) as well as urinary (Ae/Ae) and plasma (AUC/AUC) ratios were also evaluated as EB for hepatic CYP3A activity. Pregnant women in their third trimester of gestation, diagnosed with acute pyelonephritis, were recruited before (pre-treatment, n = 8) and after (post-treatment, n = 8) cefuroxime treatment and resolution of acute pyelonephritis.

Background: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of diacylglycerol (DAG) edible oil intervention in patients with chronic metabolic syndrome complicated by asymptomatic hyperuricemia through a multicenter, prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial.
Methods: A multicenter, double-blind, and randomized controlled trial involving 176 patients was designed. All patients with chronic metabolic syndrome complicated by asymptomatic hyperuricemia who meet inclusion and exclusion criteria will be included in the study and will be randomized to either group A or group B.
