The orientation of a blood vessel as visualized in 3D medical images is an important descriptor of its geometry that can be used for centerline extraction and subsequent segmentation, labeling, and visualization. Blood vessels appear at multiple scales and levels of tortuosity, and determining the exact orientation of a vessel is a challenging problem. Recent works have used 3D convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for this purpose, but CNNs are sensitive to variations in vessel size and orientation.

Stretchable electromagnetic interference (EMI) shields with strain-insensitive EMI shielding and Joule heating performances are highly desirable to be integrated with wearable electronics. To explore the possibility of applying geometric design in elastomeric liquid metal (LM) composites and fully investigate the influence of LM geometry on stretchable EMI shielding and Joule heating, multifunctional wrinkle-structured LM/Ecoflex sandwich films with excellent stretchability are developed. The denser LM wrinkle enables not only better electrical conduction, higher shielding effectiveness (SE) and steady-state temperature, but also enhanced strain-stable far-field/near-field shielding performance and Joule-heating capability.

Hand gestures provide an alternate interaction modality for blind users and can be supported using commodity smartwatches without requiring specialized sensors. The enabling technology is an accurate gesture recognition algorithm, but almost all algorithms are designed for sighted users. Our study shows that blind user gestures are considerably diferent from sighted users, rendering current recognition algorithms unsuitable.

Image registration is a crucial post-processing technique in biomedical imaging, enabling the alignment and integration of images from various sources to facilitate accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and longitudinal studies. This paper explores the application of Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT), a robust feature-based method for the alignment of biomedical images. SIFT is particularly advantageous due to its invariance to scale, rotation, and affine transformations, making it well-suited for handling the diverse and complex nature of biomedical images.

We report on a class of gapped projected entangled pair states (PEPS) with non-trivial Euler topology motivated by recent progress in band geometry. In the non-interacting limit, these systems have optimal conditions relating to saturation of quantum geometrical bounds, allowing for parent Hamiltonians whose lowest bands are completely flat and which have the PEPS as unique ground states. Protected by crystalline symmetries, these states evade restrictions on capturing tenfold-way topological features with gapped PEPS.
