Cystic choroid plexus papilloma with multiple mural nodules in an infant.

Published: May 2008

Background: A case of a 13-month-old male infant with progressive increase in head circumference, neurodevelopmental delay, and episodic generalized seizures is reported. He had a history of increase in intracranial pressure because of an arachnoid cyst at the age of 2 months which was managed by cystoperitoneal shunting, but the symptoms were still progressive.

Discussion: Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an intraventricular cystic tumor with intensely enhancing mural nodules. He underwent surgery and the cyst with the nodules was totally excised. Histopathological findings confirmed the diagnosis of cystic choroid plexus papilloma.

Conclusion: We recommend precise evaluation of intracranial cystic lesions to prevent wrong diagnosis and operation. Total resection of all enhancing nodules in cystic choroid plexus papilloma is proposed to warrant total cure of tumor.

The aim of this study is to describe genotype and phenotype of patients with bestrophinopathy. The case records were reviewed retrospectively, findings of multimodal imaging such as color fundus photograph, optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus autofluorescence, electrophysiological, and genetic tests were noted. Twelve eyes of six patients from distinct Indian families with molecular diagnosis were enrolled.

Article Synopsis
  • A 25-year-old man diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) showed distinct posterior segment abnormalities during examination, including bone spicule pigmentation and retinal atrophy.
  • Findings from advanced imaging techniques like optical coherence tomography (OCT) revealed unique wavy protrusions on the inner retinal surface, leading to non-cystic petaloid maculopathy and changes in choroidal thickness.
  • The patient's condition not only highlighted the retinal involvement linked to a genetic variant but also raised concerns about potential syndromic associations, including a major depressive disorder requiring hospitalization.

Article Synopsis
  • A case study of a 101-year-old man highlighted an unusual macular hole (MH) linked to choroidal cavitation in a nonmyopic eye, alongside secondary choroidal neovascularization (CNV).
  • The patient showed a yellow-orange lesion with a white center and some hemorrhage, identified through fundus examination and optical coherence tomography.
  • Treatment with an intravitreal injection of antivascular endothelial growth factor led to a positive outcome, suggesting that choroidal cavitary conditions can occur outside typical profiles and may be visually significant.

Trabeculectomy is a primary surgical procedure used to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma. Despite its effectiveness, it can lead to significant complications, including hypotony, choroidal effusion, blebitis, and bleb leaks. Bleb leaks require prompt medical or surgical intervention to prevent severe complications such as blebitis and bleb-associated endophthalmitis.
