We provide in this paper a comparative biochemical and structural analysis of the major thiol oxidoreductases (thioredoxin and glutaredoxin) of photosynthetic organisms in relation with their reductases and with target proteins, especially those involved either in the detoxication of peroxides such as hydrogen peroxide (thiol-peroxidases) or in the repair of oxidized methionines in proteins (methionine sulfoxide reductases). Particular emphasis will be given to the catalytic and regeneration mechanisms used by these enzymes. In addition, the protein-protein interactions of these systems will be discussed, leading to an integrated view of the functioning of these systems in various plant sub-cellular compartments.

Permeance-selectivity trade-offs are inherent to polymeric membranes. In fuel cells, thinner proton exchange membranes (PEMs) could enable higher proton conductance and increased power density with lower area-specific resistance (ASR), smaller ohmic losses, and lower ionomer cost. However, reducing thickness is accompanied by an increase in undesired species crossover harming performance and long-term efficiency.

Cisplatin is an antineoplastic drug that exhibits toxicity dependent on dosage and has adverse reproductive effects. (Bitter melon) is a natural vegetable plant; its active ingredients possess antioxidant, apoptotic, antiproliferative, hypoglycemic, and other therapeutic properties. This study evaluates the effect of the administration of bitter melon extract, cisplatin, and cisplatin/bitter melon cotreatment on liver and kidney functions, serum and testicular oxidative status, testis histology, and sperm parameters.

Cyclic oligonucleotide-based antiviral signaling systems (CBASS) are bacterial anti-phage defense operons that use nucleotide signals to control immune activation. Here we biochemically screen 57 diverse and phages for the ability to disrupt CBASS immunity and discover anti-CBASS 4 (Acb4) from the phage SPO1 as the founding member of a large family of >1,300 immune evasion proteins. A 2.

Introduction The success of surgical procedures is becoming more threatened by the advent of multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacterial strains, sometimes known as superbugs. These resistant microorganisms frequently cause post-surgical infections, which raise morbidity, death, and medical expenses. With an emphasis on resistant strains, this seeks to create an antibiogram and a thorough microbiological profile of surgical infections in order to help choose the most effective antimicrobial therapy.

Machine Learning-Assisted High-Throughput Screening of Nanozymes for Ulcerative Colitis.

Adv Mater

January 2025

College of Materials Science and Engineering, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, 53 Zhengzhou Road, Qingdao, Shandong, 266042, China.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic gastrointestinal inflammatory disorder with rising prevalence. Due to the recurrent and difficult-to-treat nature of UC symptoms, current pharmacological treatments fail to meet patients' expectations. This study presents a machine learning-assisted high-throughput screening strategy to expedite the discovery of efficient nanozymes for UC treatment.
