The official method for the determination of the composition and related substances of gentamicin prescribed by the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) is liquid chromatography combined with pulsed electrochemical detection (LC-PED). However, this method utilizes a polymer stationary phase which shows rather low efficiency towards the separation of the main gentamicin components. Moreover, the mobile phase contains a lot of non volatile salts: sodium sulphate and sodium octanesulphonate. Following a comparative study, the most performant LC-PED method has been evaluated and validated using a reversed phase C18 column (C18, 250 x 4.6mm ID, 110 A, 5 microm) kept at 35 degrees C with a mobile phase containing volatile ion pairing agents: trifluoroacetic acetic acid (TFA) and pentafluoropropionic acid (PFPA). In addition to the selectivity of the main gentamicin components and its related substances, the method is repeatable, linear and proves to be robust. It is also applicable to a wider number of C18 columns.

Bimetallic metal-organic frameworks as electrode modifiers for enhanced electrochemical sensing of chloramphenicol.

An electrochemical sensor is presented for the detection of the chloramphenicol (CAP) based on a bimetallic MIL-101(Fe/Co) MOF electrocatalyst. The MIL-101(Fe/Co) was prepared by utilizing mixed-valence Fe (III) and Co (II) as metal nodes and terephthalic acid as ligands with a simple hydrothermal method and characterized by SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, and XPS. Electrochemical measurements such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic voltammetry (CV), and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) showed that bimetallic MIL-101(Fe/Co) had the faster electron transfer, larger electroactive area, and higher electrocatalytic activity compared with  their monometallic counterparts due to the strong synergistic effect between bimetals.

Point of Care (POC) diagnosis provides an effective approach for controlling and managing Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). Electrochemical biosensors are well-suited for molecular diagnostics due to their high sensitivity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of integration into POC devices. Schistosomiasis is a prominent NTD highly prevalent in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, with significant socioeconomic implications such as discrimination, reduced work capacity, or mortality, perpetuating the cycle of poverty in affected regions worldwide.

Automated, rapid electrocatalyst discovery techniques that comprehensively address the exploration of chemical spaces, characterization of catalyst robustness, reproducibility, and translation of results to (flow) electrolysis operation are needed. Responding to the growing interest in biomass valorization, we studied the glycerol electro-oxidation reaction (GEOR) on gold in alkaline media as a model reaction to demonstrate the efficacy of such methodology introduced here. Our platform combines individually addressable electrode arrays with HardPotato, a Python application programming interface for potentiostat control, to automate electrochemical experiments and data analysis operations.

The rapid advancement of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) in recent years has firmly established them as a new class of molecularly precise and highly tuneable porous materials. However, compared to other porous materials, such as zeolites and metal-organic frameworks, the successful integration of hierarchical porosity into COFs remains largely unexplored. The challenge lies in identifying appropriate synthetic methods to introduce secondary pores without compromising the intrinsic structural porosity of COFs.

Pharmaceutical ingredients in water have become a serious threat to living bodies and lead to assorted ecological predicaments. In this study, we have established an electrochemical probe for the simultaneous detection of synthetic pharmaceutical ingredients, including 4-nitroquinoline-N-Oxide (NQN) and ornidazole (ODZ), in both human and environmental samples. This study establishes the detection of NQN and ODZ using a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) modified by highly conducting NbN incorporated with BaZrO perovskite.
