We report on the study of direct amplification of femtosecond pulses in an 80 mum core diameter microstructured Yb-doped rod-type fiber amplifier in the nonlinear regime. The system includes a compact single grating compressor for the compensation of the small dispersion in the amplifier. With a 1250 line/mm (l/mm) grating-based compressor, pulses as short as 49 fs with 870 nJ pulse energy and 12 MW peak power are obtained. Alternatively, the use of a 1740 l/mm grating allows the production of higher quality pulses of 70 fs, 1.25 microJ pulse energy, and 16 MW peak power.

Signal amplification strategies are essential for enhancing the sensitivity and accuracy of analytical methods. This study introduces an innovative approach that utilizes the nonlinear process of femtosecond laser filamentation as a signal amplifier in combination with metal-organic framework (MOF)-polymer adsorbents. In this method, metal ions adsorbed in the MOF-polymer composite alter the intensity and temporal characteristics of an 800 nm femtosecond laser pulse.

Improved Efficiency and Stability in Pure-Red CdSe Nanoplatelet LEDs Enabled by Gradient Alloyed CdSeS/CdZnS Crown/Shell.

Anisotropic nanoplatelets (NPLs) possess strong in-plane transition dipole moments and out-of-plane emission, which enable a maximum photon out-coupling efficiency of 40% and a high gain coefficient, making them ideal candidates for light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and lasers. However, the unbalanced surface energy between the side and top facets of NPLs results in poor thermal stability and high susceptibility to ripening at elevated temperatures, which complicates the growth of the shell. To address this issue, a gradient crown (CdSeS) around the CdSe NPLs is designed to stabilize the high energy side facets.

Article Synopsis
  • Multi-beam-pumped optical parametric amplification (OPA) aims to improve ultraintense femtosecond lasers but faces issues like low conversion efficiency and inter-channel crosstalk due to multi-idler-waves.
  • The paper proposes a new method called multi-beam-pumped quasi-parametric amplification (QPA) as a solution to these challenges.
  • Theoretical analysis shows that strong idler dissipation in two-beam-pumped QPA can effectively reduce crosstalk and diffraction, making it a promising approach for enhancing femtosecond laser pulses efficiently and robustly.

Multiple gain routes complicate the amplification behaviors of N2+ lasing. A direct comparison of the amplification processes of various lasing lines of N2+ is still lacking to date, mainly because the efficient generation of different lasing lines requires different experimental conditions. In this work, to overcome the limitation, we use an intense polarization-modulated femtosecond laser pulse to simultaneously produce high-intensity N2+ lasing signals at 391 nm and 428 nm, permitting us readily performing their time-domain characterizations.

White light generation (WLG) in bulk material can be used as a versatile broadband seed source for optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) stages. In this case, it is beneficial to optimize the performance of the WLG seeder in combination with the subsequent OPCPA stage. Here, we characterize how small variations in the drive pulse energy affect the white light seeder performance, in particular the wavelength stability of the amplified OPCPA spectrum.
